15 0|0|Know anyone who has had laser eye surgery?|redspecs|redspecs@bellsouth.net|16:58:07|01/20/2004|

I am very very interested in having the laser correction done, but also very hesitant at the same time. I have worn glasses for over half of my life and at one point, would have never considered the surgery. But, with the popularity, the price decreasing somewhat (it was $5000/PER EYE the first time it was mentioned to me), and the precision and results I've been hearing, I went ahead and went for a screening and have the surgery set in a few weeks. I'm just wondering if anyone has had it done or knows someone who has had it done and was not satisfied with the results. The doctor who will be doing it is reportedly one of the best in NC, having done close to 50,000 of the procedures. The only negative comment I've ever heard about it was from a know-it-all coworker, who said "Alan had it done and he was blind the next day". Little did she know, "Alan" is a personal friend of mine, and no, he was not blind the next day. I'm curious about the "long term" benefits/disadvantages of it as well. If I should have to have it re-done some time in the future, the cost is already configured in the cost of this surgery. I realize this is a "relatively" new procedure, and I cant help but think that if something is fixed, it will just heal and life goes on; basically like any type of surgery. I've heard that if you have the laser correction surgery, you cant be an eye donor. I'me just interested in hearing any comments about it...everything I hear is wonderful, but I know there are always risks, as with any surgery. 1|1|I have 2 friends that had it done|GTSTANGGIRL|gt87stang@cox.net|17:14:31|01/20/2004|

My oldest friend had it done about 8yrs ago when it was still really new. To this day he has no problems with his eyes. My other friend just got it done about 3yrs agao and he has had no problems with it. I was told 2yrs ago that I would be great for this cause my eyes barely changed in 8yrs of wearing glasses. However the Navy dont cover me to get the surgery so therefor I have to do out of pocket. But I think its a great idea exspecially if your sick of glasses/contacts, you can afford it/have insurance, you have a good doctor (sounds like you do) and your doc. feels its good for you.

you might want to check around for chat boards pertaining to this. I am doing research on the gastric bypass procedure...I have gained a lot of knowledge about the subject by participating on chat boards. I've also met some email pals that way, too! HTH! GOOD LUCK!

I had it 4 years ago. My eyes were so bad that the doctor didn't even want to do it, but thank goodness he did. I saw better than 20/20 the very next day. I did have to have am enhancement done on one eye a year later. I spent $3000 per eye, I had to take out a loan, but it's one of the best things I have ever done in my life. I wish everyone who needed this could have it done. 5|1|I had lasik eye surgery and so glad i did!!!!:0)|LISAT|THERIOTMOMOF2@CHARTER.NET|22:57:23|01/25/2004|

I had this surgery 3-4 years ago and love the fact that I no longer have to wear contacts or glasses just to see the alarm clock on my bedside table....yes, my eyes were that bad (near sighted). I was lucky though, at the time my insurance was paying for it.

but there isnt nothing available for close-up vision...yet.

Mine was $3400 (and worth e-v-e-r-y cent of it, lol). So so so easy, I was amazed at how easy it was. 17 years wearing glasses and now I dont have to!!! 8|1|My husband had it two weeks ago.....|sxm0089|mancuso@core.com|14:51:30|04/12/2004|

he recommended I only get one eye done so I will still have the one eye for reading close work or I would have to wear reading glasses if I had both done. I love it.

Let me tell you! It is the best thing ever. And, since then, the price is cut in half and they have nearly perfected it. One of my eyes was overcorrected and caused a stigmatism, but it was still well worth every cent!!!

I CAN SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :) BIG GRIN HERE!!!!! LOL

I started wearing glasses in 6th grade, about age 11 and wore them and/or contact(s) (yes, only wore 1 for awhile) until last November 2003 when I had Lasik Vision Correction done in Houston, Texas at Lasik Vision Center. HIGHLY recommend them and their expert doctors. The procedure scared the wits outta me, I have to say that. I was a total nervous wreck while sitting there on that Sunday (yes, they work 7 days a week seeing patients OR performing surgeries) waiting for my turn. There were LOTS that had it done the same day as me, one young girl having one eye redone. Your near-sightedness can be corrected with this. However, it does NOT work or help the natural aging process when reading glasses may be needed over the age of 40. That is stressed. That is something it won't fix and you have no control over, although I do look for some new procedure to be available in the future to fix this with all the modern technology we have nowadays. No one warned me about the procedure itself and yes, I AM a worry wart and was really uptight and nervous by the time I got in there. IF you have a xanax or valium AND it doesn't make you even worse, take 1 (or more LOL) BEFORE you go in. They told me they would give me a valium to help me relax and take the edge off before my procedure and then they would NOT do it, said it makes people worse. LOL The funnier part was going in and I asked for it the second time and they said I could have it AFTER the surgery. Go figure there! LOL I said by then I wouldn't need it. So, if you have something of your own to relax you abit without knocking you out or making you hyper or crazier, take it BEFORE you leave home. LOL Anyway, I got in there and made it through 1 eye (first was worse for me even though they said the second would be because by then your brain will have caught on to what's going on and your second eye would be the worst one for you, but NOT for me -- I'm always the exception to the rule). After I made it through the first eye, the second was a breeze and I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy I was able to tough it out. Didn't hurt one bit, just the thought of someone cutting on my eye, all the possible complications I had read about on the papers I had to sign were coming back into my thoughts and basically freaking me out because like I said I am a worrier. After I had it done and walked out of the surgery room into the other little dark room to sit awhile, I was SO happy. One reason I was so nervous too was I was freezing. They said to wear warm clothes, no makeup, perfumes, powder, hairspray, or anything scented because it could affect the sensitivity of the machines so I did just that (I thought). I was a sight with no hairspray, they made me remove my barrettes :(, unscented deodorant, no perfume and thought I looked like a wild ghost. LOL I wore a sweatshirt and jeans but this was NO WHERE NEAR warm enough for me because I thought it was freezing in surgery room so they gave me a heated blanket afterwards and it warmed me up, calmed me down and I was just fine. We drove home and my eyes watered the whole way home. Got home and had to lie in bed for a few hours with my goofy goggles on and eyes shut for them to rest and the flaps to start their healing process. Went back the next day for followup and was seeing 20/20 in LESS THAN 24 HOURS and I was 20/400. WHOOOPPPPPIIIIIIEEEEE! I had never been happier and I could read all the signs all the way to Houston and it was just SO SO amazing I can't even describe it. My hubby is the one that offered it to me and I jumped at the chance of having it done. It's NOT cheap, but it's not unaffordable either. They even offer financing at LVI with NO interest for 1 yr so that helps alot of people that can't just come up with 1000 or more at one time. They also offer a lifetime enhancement package for just a little more per eye, and I definately recommend it. That covers if your eyes regress (start getting worse) and you need one or both eyes redone, they do it for NO additional charge, but the catch to this is you have to have your eyes examined by their eye doctor once per year before your 1 yr anniversary and that same date each year and that cost is 100.00 for each exam. Worth it to me because should I have to have it redone it will only cost me the trip back to Houston and my time. LOVE IT and SO happy I had it done. If you have anymore questions, or want to talk about it please email me. Sorry this is so long, but I just wanted to tell you of my experience. Some people aren't nervous people and are just naturally calm and it's a total breeze for them, but I'm not one of those people and was just freaked out over the procedure itself, but if you can pschye yourself out and think positive everything should go smoothly. I highly recommend the Lasik Vision Center and they have offices in Texas, I think Louisiana, and maybe other states. The doctor that did my surgery was great. He and their other doctors travel to the different offices to perform the surgeries. Good Luck if you do have it done. I think you would be happy with the results. "I CAN SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE "

I was 20/200 and 20/400 also, went to 20/30 the next day. I was 20/20 at the 1 month visit. I was amazed at how easy it was. I was terrified out of my skin as well...only set of eyes I have, lol. We were given something to relax us just before the procedure started, and then 2 sleeping pills and 2 pain pills to take afterwards. They said to take one of each afterwards and then if you didnt go to sleep w/in about an hour, take the other set. I didnt need the other set, lol, I slept from about 4pm to 6am the next morning. It is truly a life-changing experience. I wish everyone could have it done.

I went back and read, reread the post, and reread yet again. LOL I CAN SEEEEEEEEEEEEEE too but didn't notice the date being JANUARY! LOL (I'm also blonde heehee)

SOOOOOOOOOOO happy you had it done and can now SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE like MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! HEEEEEEEE HEEEEEEEE

LOL WOW, I am SO jealous they gave you meds to take afterwards for pain AND sleep. OMG! LOL Heck, I'd have slept the whole way home from Houston then instead of having to eat chicken nuggets and French fries from Wendy's 'in the dark' and dipping in ketchup. LMBO Hubby asked what I wanted to eat on the way home and that's what I told him so we stopped at Wendy's and when I got my food and tried to open my eyes to see what I was about to eat, my eyes watered so bad I couldn't even hold them open. So I had to 'feel and eat' my nuggets and fries like a blind person because I couldn't keep my eyes open without them watering MAJOR! They did this the whole way home and even when I got home for another hour or so before it finally stopped (when I finally gave up and went to sleep LOL). I did okay (I thought) until the next day when I got in hubby's truck for him to take me back for my 1 day checkup (should've seen the ketchup drips in the floor board LMBO). Not so funny to him cause he HATES ketchup (or any sauce for that matter), but I got most of it up before he even saw it. Was only a few little drops though. LOL So sorry, I missed the date, thought I was replying to a current post and gonna help ya out abit! :) Glad you had good results too. Although I'm not so sure how staying on this comptuter for long term will affect it in the future. ?????? I wonder about that. Darla
