Wanted to say Hello to our new members. We have 2.

Deanna emailed me yesterday and said she would love to join and I received Cathys email today.

Cathy I hope you don't mind, I have added a part of your email so that we can use it as an introduction to the group.

"A little about me...I am 48, a substitute school teacher, married 30 years this May, 2 grown sons, a grandbaby on the way, 2 dogs who are like my babies. I have tried Weight Watchers in the past and have done well with their program. However, the small town I live in only has a WW meeting a week and that one meeting has gotten so big that I don't really feel like I'm getting a lot of individual support. I have thought about joining the WW Online, but I believe you have to pay for 3 months in advance.

My plan is to follow the WW point system ( I still have all my point books, tracking sheets, etc) and get back into exercising. I enjoy execising to the Denise Austin TV show (especially the ones that use yoga). I plan on taping her shows and exercising to them every day. In a week or so, I would like to supplement the exercise shows with swimming (at our high school) or using treadmill, stationary bike, etc ( at the Wellness Center in town) Since I am on the school staff I can swim at no charge and membership in the Wellness Center is like $5 a month.

I think this support group is a great idea for us to help ourselves and each other."

Deanna, feel free to post an introduction for the group and we are glad to have you BOTH!

I hope everyone is doing really well...I personally feel like I'm lagging

I would love to hear how everyones first week went!

Shannyn

Hi to all. And here we go, scratching up hill.

Im Deanna, a stay at home mom. I make my own bath and body products and I am the coordinator of the local chapter of Project Linus. I have 3 kids, Jennifer 14, Adam 4 and Sierra 3 (they are 10 mo apart) I have served in Americacorp as a family mentor and I was a social worker working with low income families helping them find the community resourses they needed to be self sufficiant. My son was diagnosed with ADHD and SID in April of 2002 and I had to quit work to stay at home with him. I now do his occupational and hippotherapy myself. I have made it my goal to start support services in this area for SID.

My weightloss plan is to follow the diabetic diet guidlines. I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was pregnant with Adam and due to a crappy doctor I was not treated properly for it after my pregnancy with Sierra. i have recently found a doctor who has helped me get a handle on it and now that my blood sugar is under control I plan to stick to the diabetic diet guidlines. If anyone is interested in the way the diet works and the exchange list e mail me for info. I will be posting recipes on the recipe board that are diabetic friendly. I am going to try to post one a day. They will be different posts for each category of food. I think its going to be fun getting to know everyone. Thanks for having me on your team.

everything that you are doing, not only for yourself and your children, but also your community.

If you would like to past daily recipes or whatever, that would be great!

Thanks a bunch for your introduction!

well, i have been sick since thursday, so i don't know! i have tried to eat decent, but last night i begged my dh to go and get me one of those great big bakery muffins at the VP station!!!!!!!!!!! we have absolutely no junk food in this house, so i haven't done too bad. i am trying to stay away from empty carbs, but the only thing i have right now to make my throat feel better is sherbet. at least i am not eating it all in one sitting...just a little at a time with some sprite! well, i don't want to weigh until february 1st...we will see!! :)

getting sick really shot my exercise program right down...will have to wait until i feel better!

hope everyone is doing well!! let us know 3|2|Sore throat treat|Rayne667|Rayne667@aol.com|20:07:36|01/19/2004|

Since I am a diabetic and have to limit my sugar I blend this up for a sore throat and even though it might not sound that great it really is.

1 cup of vanilla ice cream
8 ice cubes if yo are using the regular freeze it yourself ice or 2 cups of bagged ice
1 cup of fresh or fresh frozen fruit, I have used strawberries, peaches, raspberries and blackberries

Blend in blender until smooth. You mihgt have to add just a bit of water to get the ice to crush in your blender. Its kinda like ice milk, fruity and makes your throat alot better.

Hope you feel beter soon I have had it this week too and it's not fun

But thats mostly because I haven't even had much time to eat alot, and we haven't been grocery shopping yet, and we've been drinking ALOT of water cuz Dh is trying to lose weight too. I still haven't looked for a scale yet though, but will very soon. I have a home gym right here in my office that I have been using alot the last year....off and on though...so my goal is to use it regularly even if its just once a week. If all you gals were closer we could work out together on the gym for free...hehehehe.

I don't know if you've sent out a compiled list of the groups info ...but if so I haven't rec'd anything yet?

Thanks
Jen

Don't see too many posts for this group. I'm at 19 days of exercising, haven't missed a day since I started- YAY for me!!!! I haven't lost any weight though, which I find really odd....and NO, my clothes aren't any looser either! Grrrr.....wonder what's up with that? I've been watching what I eat, smaller portions, etc. This is frustrating, when I have SO much weight to lose, I AM staying committed, but I really am frustrated as well.

i haven't started exercising yet, but I FEEL SOOOO MUCH BETTER today!!! (no more sickness!). i am trying to eat right. will it bother the heck out of you guys if i post what i eat on this thread. i need some extra accountability! :) lmk :) ami 9|6|go ahead and post your meals, Ami......|shelly|giftstar@aol.com|15:58:20|01/22/2004|

I'm sure nobody else will mind....I know I won't!! I'm not seeing many in this group posting, so let's keep this thread bumped up so everyone can stay motivated!!!!

Glad to hear you're feeling better---it is so hard to do a diet or excercise when you're not well!

with your excersize! Sometimes we don't see immediate results becasue our bodies start toning instead of losing..

your doing great anyways, and thanks for all the posting!

I have been posting recipes for lower carb foods on the recipe board. They are listed as Diabetic Recipes and then the category they fall under so it will not clog up the board with one long post. These are some of the recipes I use.

Other food things I do:

No white bread, only whole grain bread, wheat or 7 grain and no breads with honey.

No white flour, only whole wheat flour

No white pasta, only whole wheat pasta

Soups with barley, I use the spoup starters and add lean beef, ground turkey or chicken breast depending on the soup and add 1/3 cup of barley for every 8 cups of water added to the soup starter. Barley is higher in carbs but whole grans are absorbed into the blood stream at a slower rate so you will have a lower blood sugar than processed starches.

Cooked cabbage, if yo like cooked cabbage it is a "free food" not many calories and no carbs so you can have it when you are hungry and dont want o add those extra calories and carbs. 11|1|I am SOOO Sorry to the ladies in this group|nascar_babe|nascar_babe@hotmail.com|18:03:15|01/23/2004|

I am not on the inet much right now, just a few seconds here and there with everything going on.

My husband has been ill and my uncle is dying and I just don't seem to have my head on straight right now.

I have a few minutes, so I will get the email resent to everyone with names and addys on it.

Thank you for posting the recipes, and I will try to do better with this group.

Thanks! Shannyn

PS: i am not sure about weight wise what I have lost, but I know that when I pulled my pants out of the dryer, I didn't have to lie down to zip them up :) Guess that is a plus!
