We took a photo of the code. Never heard of scanning by phone.

You can do that in the store. I don't think each package has its own unique code. I think it's the same code for all the same type (e.g. 12-packs of regular Pepsi, six packs of Cherry Pepsi, etc.). You can use the links I provided and probably just change that one number to find some more valid links.
