Its up to the sender. Many senders put a little something in the card. But sometimes a person does not have anything to put in card, so they just send a card.
I have gotten many pretty cards with nothing in them. I have also received many nice items in the mail with the card. It is thought that counts not the gift.
It is really up to the person if they want to put something in the card.

i got to post office they told me it going cost 3.00 per envelope that i can't afford so to save my hard work and cards and stamp already on each one i going cut the bottom open and replace with something else
i am so sad 
so they will go out hopefully later this week just a mess for me i could not believe it when they told me as i thought for sure it woudl go with 1 stamp.

It was the thickness most likely. All you have to do is mail one at a time OR put a 21c stamp along with a forever stamp. That't that. Or just put 70c on each one. They should be fine. Just don't mail with a postal clerk. Buy your stamps. Sonny Forever 13 days ago I mailed out to all 14 people on my list.....there were 2 ladies whom asked only for cards which were sent the rest got all manilla 5x 7 envelopes with a christmas card and items asked as per this christmas card exchange
To date 12/19/17 I have only received 3 cards one card did not contain anything.....the other cards each contained one item which were a copy of a winter soup recipe I requested one was a soup the other was a dessert. SO I am asking to all kindly list what you have gotten and from whom and whom still owns you a card. So far I got from Gloria and then Jared and Kristine. Thanks very much and peace. Catherine

Sonny Forever I tired to email without getting a correct answer so I sent a email to the mods as per.....the original post that states this is fun make a list of 5 items you would like to receive that can fit into a christmas card. I received 14 current members of this forum on my list 2 ladies Jackie Puma and Janet Melpaul asked for cards only which is fine that is what I sent to them.....however all other ladies put down requested items. I sent to all ladies a 5 x 7 manilla envelope my choice and a christmas card and items from their lists. To date as of yesterday I only got three cards 2 cards contained a copied cooking item.....one card from Gloria contained nothing I emailed her several times and got all different answers. Today I got 2 more cards with nothing in them and they were from 2 different ladies whom requested items and I put those items with a christmas card to them in the mail. I have seen numerous posts you made complaining about this and they seem to have disappeared, so I am commenting here.....
First of all, MOST people in the card exchange had lists like...."stamps, stickers, coupon potluck, cat potluck, post its, shiny pennies", etc.......pretty NON-specific as most of us have stamps, SOME kind of stickers, and some kind of coupons on hand, which makes those lists easy to fulfill without going out of our way.

You were QUITE specific in your requests......VINTAGE stickers and labels, 2018 New Year cards, NON- SS potluck, NED's, and specific item coupons for drinks (none of which I have seen coupons for recently).....and lastly Winter SOUL recipe.....which I had no clue what that was and wouldn't want to have been deemed ignorant by asking. I don't have ANY of the items on your list lying around and I didn't think people were supposed to have to go out of their way to put items in the cards. I thought the point was to put a wish list of small items that IF people had them, they COULD CHOOSE to put into the card....it was not an obligation to give at least as much as you received. (Christmas never should be). So, IF I were part of the exchange, I would have merely sent a card because I don't have items on YOUR list....other people would probably have gotten items off their lists because I HAVE some of those items. This might be why most people did NOT send you anything on your list. Simply because they didn't HAVE those items.....next time maybe be less specific?
Although I agree that you SHOULD have received cards from EVERYONE who was still part of the exchange, the complaints and "emails to mods" seem to be about NOT getting anything IN the cards, despite having mailed out 5x7 envelopes to most people. And calling out people by name whom you feel short changed by and pointing out what YOU sent to them is the exact opposite of generous. That means everything you send out is an OBLIGATION not a gift.
And lastly, I swear I saw somewhere that you were once a teacher??? If that is so, PLEASE quit saying you believe "it is better to give then receive". This again speaks of giving being an OBLIGATION for people to give back. I assume, judging by how generous you have posted that you are......you MEAN "it is better to give THAN receive". A comparison, not an obligation for people to return the gesture.
I know it is none of my business, but I thought I'd let you know why I wouldn't have sent anything except a card. Not aiming to dismiss you, just pointing out that most of us probably don't HAVE those specific items which is probably why you only got cards.

Victoria is a name....VictoriaN refers to the time period.
Vintage usually refers to WINE or the best of a bygone time period. Never, that I have ever heard, does it refer to teapots and cups.
Again, it was a GUESS of what I THOUGHT you might be referring to.....however, I do not really know you so your "vintage" bygone era could mean you wanted Care Bears and Mork from Ork stickers.
Fair is fair would simply be you getting 14 cards....nothing more. Anything extra is just that...an .EXTRA gift.
And as to you "being done"..... I have read that FAAARRR too many times to believe it.
I, however, AM done. I have said you SHOULD have gotten cards...that I agree with. And I have pointed out what I believe to be a sound reason that you didn't get many extras. And you have responded basically saying people should've made a trip to GUESS what your definition of VINTAGE is and bought you at least .99 cent stickers.
We will have to agree to disagree because we are not going to see eye to eye on the concept of "card exchange" versus swap.

People do not have to put something in with a card, only if they want to. The people signed up to exchange Christmas cards as we do each year. I think getting a card is fun, the cards this time a year are so pretty and they celebrate his birthday. Some people choose not to sent to everyone on the list which is fine. Putting something in the card is a option not a requirement.
I got 18 cards in the mail some with something in them and others just a Marry Christmas and a Happy New Year, All cars were Appreciated, and loved all of them.
I do not understand why a person has to make it so hard when its so simple. But to all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. I sure hope we can make money in 2018, at least give us some good rewards programs. Please if you going to drink let someone else drive, we would like to see you next year on the boards.

I love all the cards I've received and I have them hanging around my diningroom door along with the ones from other family and friends and i look at them and smile every time I walk through that door. be a little slow. I am enjoying all the cards coming in - no two alike, each one so unique! Haven't gotten many from friends and family this year, so my RS cards are even more treasured this year! I have a large card display holder on the back of our front door and all the cards are slowly filling the slots up - beautiful! Priceless to know I am remembered and someone took time from their busy day to address and mail a card to ME!
