Growing up, I didn't think of Memorial Day as a military remembrance holiday. It was an occasion to visit the graves of all of the beloved departed. I always thought of Memorial Day as a day to remember everyone who had died, not just service people. I remember a lot of people calling it Decoration Day.
Anyone else still follow this tradition?

I was reading in the paper it started after WW1 to remember the people killed in the war.I think it was changed in the 40's to remember everyone who had dies.Lots of people just think of it as a day to picnic or grill out, Its sad to go to the graveyards and see no one has been there before us. neither were in the military and i am the only one who put anything there also
