The First-Class postage rates are DECREASING on April 10th. You did not read that wrong, the rates are going down over 4%. The rate change in January 2014 was only a temporary emergency surcharge to help the USPS recover from the Great Recession of 2008-2009. The Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) put a cap of $4.6 billion dollars on the extra revenue. USPS is expected to reach that cap on April 9th. What does that mean for you? Effective April 10th the rate for a First-Class letter will drop from $.485 to $.465. That’s a 2 cent drop! This rate change only effects First-Class products, Priority product pricing will not change.
