Took, sister Karen to ER at Sparks Friday morning (3-18) for sever back and leg pain. Then she started coughing up blood. Turned out she is in Congestive Heart Failure. (This is what our Dad had for years) She was admitted to ICU at Sparks Hospital room 256.
She was intubated in the ER then taken to ICU she was on 100% oxygen. They have it down to 60% tonight but it's just going to take a couple more days to get her off the vent.
Main thing is the heart & lungs then they will worry about the back later. She is on enough pain med's to help the pain.
Heart doctor, is great did confirm that it is CHF, heart muscle is good and strong. Hope to get her off the vent Monday or Tuesday. After that they will do a Heart-Cath to see if there is any blockage. Pulmonary doctor is checking her on just about everything you can think of to see why her lungs are not working like they should. The heart doctor thinks that it's due to all the fluid.
The last 40 something hours they have gotten 5 liters of fluid off her and there is still more coming out. They did start her on antibodics - to make sure there is no infection.
Hopefully we will know more in the am or on Monday from test results.

This afternoon they took her OFF the "vent". She is alert and knows what is going on.
They will do a "Heart-Cath" on Wednesday. Depending on what they find, the next step is to call in a neuro-surgeon to see what is causing the back and leg pain.
She is not completely out of the woods yet.
