Fayette County Postal truck and all its undelivered mail burn in Lexington

A U.S. Postal Service truck in Lexington was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon, along with all the mail it was carrying.David Walton, an USPS spokesman, said a carrier from the Bluegrass Station on Lansdowne Drive near Fayette Mall heard a pop from the engine, pulled over and saw smoke coming from the engine. Moments later the truck went up in flames. Walton said the mail carrier, whose name was not immediately available, was not injured. The fire occurred at 3180 Dale Hollow Drive about 3:10 p.m., when the carrier had about 400 deliveries left. Residents whose mail might have burned will receive a letter about the fire and contact information if they have questions, Walton said.
