22 0|0|Do you use Crock-pot? Need suggestions.|gwkatt2|gwkatt2@hotmail.com|01:53:26|01/21/2015|
Last week Kohl's had a sale on 7 qrt Crock-pot. Unfortunately i missed it, but the sale will come around again.
I have some questions for you Crock-pot users:
- why do you prefer this gadget to stove-top or oven cooking?
- if its only 2 people, what size of Crock-pot should i get?
- is it economical as far as electricity usage, how do i measure?
- i read some blogs and some folks own more than one Crock-pot. Why?
This is basically questions i have.
TIA. Natasha. 1|1|i use mine all the time.|ppe1952|matwell3@rochester.rr.com|08:36:01|01/21/2015|

There is a blog out there where a lady used her crock pot everyday for a year. She made different items with it and then reviewed how they turned out.
There are several good recipes on there.

I have 2 crock-pots, medium and large. I use it to cook beef & chicken stew, pot roast, chili, marinara sauce on low all day long. Comes in handy if you're pressed for time. Always have leftovers cooking this way. I love the meats so moist and tender. I also make bone broth that I leave on low for 2-3 days. 4|2|Can you post your recipe for bone broth. I have|merryone|merryone@bellsouth.net|18:45:02|01/21/2015|
never made it, but would love to. tia 5|3|Very simple recipe for bone broth....|Sharon|sharon.forshee@hughes.net|19:36:58|01/21/2015|
I get the beef bones from local grass-fed farms - put in about 4-5 bones with fat on them (gives it flavor), add 1-2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar and fill with water. Let it simmer all day on low. Skim off the top and discard. Hubby likes drinking this in a cup with s&p, can use this in soups, gravies, etc. I also do this with whole chicken after cooking it for a meal, taking off all the chicken and put the carcass in crock-pot cooking same way as beef bones. I add water as it evaporates keeping this on low for 2-3 days until the bones looks pretty much done!! 6|4|Thanks!! Am going to try it|merryone|merryone@bellsouth.net|19:50:55|01/21/2015|

Jennifer in North Carolina...the Tar Heel State 8|1|So, how much in electricity cost to run Crock-Pot?|gwkatt2|gwkatt2@hotmail.com|07:09:28|01/23/2015|
I can see myself using it versus electric stove which is 220. No gas lines on my block.
Where we live the electric rates can bankrupt us.
But how much electricity do you use if you cook something for 8 hours or like Stock lady makes stock and runs it for 48 hours?

It is so great for easy meals and also if your busy. I dump meal in the morning before I go and let it cook all day. Makes meats so moist and tender, even the cheaper cut meats...they even have them with the timer to preset when to start. Just google crockpot recipes and there are so many sites. Our favorite meal is steak, potatoes and corn in the crockpot. So good. 11|3|I wish i could believe this - 7 hours running crock-pot at a cost of 10 cents. |gwkatt2|gwkatt2@hotmail.com|10:44:55|01/24/2015|
This article is 6 years old. I don't put too much faith into internet articles.
I want to know what people that actualy use Crock -Pot think.
I know our electric costs have risen every year.
We keep on saving on electric usage anyway we can.
That is why i am questioning this.
But thank you for responding, i do appreciate this.

13|2|Nancy. You are too much. I thought about figuring out the kilowatts for the use of crock-pot.|gwkatt2|gwkatt2@hotmail.com|17:10:40|01/26/2015|
The government demends calorie count on foods in restaurants, i wish they did that for small and large appliances.
I have my electric bills saved up. I can always count the cost if i knew what the particular appliance takes.
Thanks for trying.

16|3|Not really. I am looking at my electic bill and it is broken down by 3 diffrerent rates.|gwkatt2|gwkatt2@hotmail.com|06:05:20|01/27/2015|
- KWH (killowat per hour) - $.0904 is the highest, must be daytime.
So, i round it up to the next cent, i am paying 10 cents per kw per hour.
So, if i use 250 kw, that would cost $25.
Does not make much sense. 18|4|Watts and kWh are not the same, thus your math is wrong|oakridge32|hammer_1116@yahoo.com|06:29:42|01/27/2015|

wattage x hours used ÷ 1000 x price per kWh = cost of electricity
250 watts x 10 hours / 1000 x .10 per kWH = .25
Based upon using for 10 hours at a rate of .10 per kWh your cost is a quarter, not $25.

I have a 5 qt and a 2 quart. When I make soup I use the 5 qt especially in winter. Then I put it in pitcher in fridge. And just take out what I need. Last week I fixed half a turkey in my 5 qt. Wow''''' So tender. I cut it up tho. So it would fit. 17|2|I was looking at 7 qt one. It seemed an average size.|gwkatt2|gwkatt2@hotmail.com|06:07:09|01/27/2015|

20|1|I was able to Google this info. Some websites have statistics.|gwkatt2|gwkatt2@hotmail.com|14:49:07|01/27/2015|
Some are to scientific, so hard to follow, but some give a better explanation.
They compare Crock-pot vs cooking gas vs electric stove cooking.
Also, if you cook meats vs soups and that affects the time you cook.
In some cases in is cheaper to cook soup on a gas stove vs Crock-pot.
It is cheaper to use Crock-pot than to use electric oven for meat dishes.
And so on.
