I know people on meds for it, and they seems to be managing much better. You might want to talk about it with him, going to counseling ect, before he comes home. Praying all goes well.

Then, a doctor can make recommendations after that for counseling and/or medication.

Otherwise, it is only your speculation as to what is his problem. Don't assume until you have taken the proper steps to find out.

It is much healthier to be pro-active instead of re-active to his situation. Be strong! You will not help him by showing worry and stress. Perhaps counseling would help you & your husband deal with him, too. 3|2|Signs appear to not be bi-polar disorder.........seek professional help|kdrink|kdrink34@yahoo.com|12:10:03|11/14/2014|

While not a doctor, I seek professional assistance if it were me......The signs of irritaiblity and crying indicate depression, not bi- polar, however when certain characteristics exist one can have bi-polar but be in the depressive phase of it. Does he have extreme highs (mania) and lows( depression)? It could possibily be situational depression, could be another depressive disorder which would explain irritability and crying. In order to have a diagnosis of Bi-polar, as well as any other mental health illness, there are different categories, single episodes, mixed episodes, recent episodes, hypo/hyper mania, and depending on what is reported is where the diagnosis is given, each with a different DSM coding. There is also a Cyclothymic Disorder which falls under the mood disorder category, but again certain criteria must be met. Mood disorders vary.
The best thing you can do is be caring and supportive and encourage him to meet with a psychiatrist or another mental health professional. Does he have thoughts of suicide? Would he tell you the truth? Make that appointment and let him do the talking. Sometimes people who have struggles don't need someone to control, they need someone to listen and provide encouragement. They need an ear to support them and not be be judged. Good luck
