She had congestive heart failure, her stomach and lungs were filled with fluid. The doctor said there was nothing that would help her.
I know it was for the best but I feel so lost now. I miss her more than I thought I would.
I am not getting any more animals as I am older now and live in a small apartment.
I just miss her little face and those eyes! She was just the cutest little thing.
I keep telling myself I was lucky to have her for the 11 years I did. And I hope I made her life happy.
And I hope she is happy now and at peace, and forgives me for the decision I made.
Donna

I don't know why, they're a part of your everyday life for years and yet you still don't realize how attached you get to them. I feel so lost. But I keep telling myself that it will get easier every day. I'm just trying to get my mind off of it, and keep busy.
Thanks again guys

I agree, they are like family and it's hard to lose them too. Next week will be a year since we had to put one of our furbabies down, she was 11 1/2 and such a joy. I still get emotional and cry sometimes when I think of her. My prayers are with you (((HUGS))))

It's so hard when you lose a pet as I've had many times in the past. They are a member of the family and all they know is the love they give you! Remember the good times! 8|1|So sorry for your loss|Tiggy|DealzMartin@aol.com|23:36:32|06/17/2014|

Waking up this morning was so hard. Not to do the things we used to do. But I keep telling myself, each day it will get a little easier. I'm just trying to keep myself busy. Guess I'll have a clean house for a change, cause cleaning is the one thing that keeps you real busy.
Thanks again everyone, so much!

the same thing happened to our Romeo a lab who was 10yrs old.He had cancer we didn't know so it was a shock for us.Had to put him down 3 months ago still sad about him,but today realized didn't think about him once now that i'm at that point feel better somewhat. So many reminders in the house and little things like leftover food he would eat not any more.Want to get another dog or maybe a kitten understand your not wanting to get another pet so hard when you loose them.He was like my 4th child and the cutest of all. take care rose, i'm signed in as joseph but a whole other story. 11|2|Thank you Joseph|COVE|mcdonna3@gmail.com|07:24:53|06/19/2014|

will always have a special place in your heart for her and good memories. I know what you mean about being older in a small apartment. Do any of your neighbors have dogs that you can see once in awhile? I enjoy seeing the dogs go by once in awhile with neighbors. Dogs are so special and have much love to give. 14|2|There are lots of dogs around me|COVE|mcdonna3@gmail.com|22:31:20|06/20/2014|

I don't see them often, but when I do I love petting them. And my sister's family all have dogs and have told me already that their dogs wanted them to tell me I can come over there any time and pet them. They have Pugs and are sooooo cute!

I still keep thinking she's here, I guess old habits are hard to break. I keep thinking I'll come home and she'll be waiting for me, getting excited and begging for a snack. Or I go from one room to another and think she will still be there begging to get petted.

But then I think about how sick she'd been. She used to always crawl under her blanket and sleep. She hasn't done that in years. The last few months or so she was lucky to be comfortable enough to sleep for long periods and when she did she would lay on her side. I had no clue it was because she was probably uncomfortable from all the fluid build up.
When the doctor called me and told me "You wouldn't know it to look at her, but she's underweight." She only looked chubby because she had the fluid on her. Since she'd always been chubby I had no clue.

I only hope I didn't let her suffer too long. She never cried or whimpered. She did get so the last week where she wasn't breathing right, and again I didn't notice, because being a Chihuahua she had the typical trachea problem.

Thank you for your thoughts. They help more than you know.

. I too, had to put my lab down 4 years ago..she was 11 and had poor health. At the end, she couldn't control her back legs. so that was no way for her to live.... The month after I put her to sleep, I found this poem in our animal shelter news letter. I wanted to share it with you..; It brought me peace, and I actually wish I had had it earlier. I know now that I held on too long to Abby. But I know what I did was because I loved her. I hope it gives you comfort like it did me. God Bless. Remember, the sadness is hard..but think of all the happiness you had for 11 years. That's what I do. And I do have another dog...his name is Geno and he is a shar pei. He is different from Abby..but I love him to death. I know someday he will go to dog heaven, but I will give him love, take his love and make wonderful memories to last forever (just like the ones with Abby)
Take care
Judy

Today I loved you most of all……
We knew it from the start,
And now we sit together,
Me with a heavy heart.

I know that it is time
To release you from your pain.
There’s nothing left to do,
Nothing left to gain.

As I look into your eyes,
I feel the pain I see.
I know you have been holding on,
Just because of me.

You are my best friend,
And I don’t want you to go
But loving you as I do,
I can’t let you suffer so.

So as I hold you here,
I just wanted you to know…
Today I loved you most of all,
Today I let you go.

This poem was beautiful!
It's been a little over 2 weeks now and it's still hard. Mostly when I'm alone and have too much time to think. Just trying to keep busy. It's getting a little easier most of the time.

I couldn't believe it when I opened the letter from my Vet (Banfield Animal Hospital out of PetSmart) and it was a sympathy card from the vet. All the people who worked there wrote a little something and signed their names. It just made me cry.
I thought it was the nicest thing.

I heard a bump on the door and there was a local florist with a delivery. It was from the vets office and comes every time I loose a pet. I love my vet!
