It's time to ditch this crusty old thing and get a new one. I have a Dell with the tower sitting on the floor. Can you guys recommend what and where I should get? I'm so lost. Dell (direct) has some great deals for their business models. Win7pro is a pretty good OS but I do miss XP. However, MS stopped supporting XP on April 8th, no new security updates. I really don't want to go to Windows 8 so if I buy another, will get it with win7pro. As far as the browsers, internet explorer is horrible, has been for years and there was recent news about the security flaws. I like Chrome and Firefox, both are much more secure and stable than IE. When you get your new one, you can download whatever browser you like. DH use to build our computers but this time he purchased a NEW one for me at Amazon - I think you would like it and it very easy. We got ours at Amazon but I just checked and it's no longer there but Office Depot has it and I am sure other do if you just google it.

The HP All in One computer is a desktop but everything is built into one unit and it does not require a tower. It is not bulky and the price is reasonable.

got it used from a friend..couldn't pass up the deal as my old one was a dinosaur with tower and sooo slow. Really like this one. Disks slide in the side of the puter. I have had a HP for the last three years and love it, it runs as fast as it did when it was new. If you do a lot of work on the computer, you find that it is hard to support your arms on a laptop and then you start to get issues.

my daughter does a lot of work on a laptop which is causing tendons ect to bunch up in her wrist and arms, even though it is used at a desk tip most of the time. She is planning to go back to desktop for the majority of her work.

You have to update the graphics card in most of them and then they tend to overheat under extreme play. Almost any laptop will run World of Warcraft, but to be competitive in the new ESO, League of Legends, etc., the deskstops are more desirable and are also easier to upgrade all the graphics boards, memory, sound boards, etc. as they get older. It is far more expensive to upgrade a laptop if not impossible depending on the brand. Just cheaper to buy a new laptop.

Desktop pc's are big enough that they have cooling fans in the back of them which help keep the components from over-heating. There are usually 2. Laptops/notebooks are smaller & geared more for portability/mobility so don't have the same capacity for cooling fans & can therefore over-heat easier & need cooling pads to reduce that risk.
If a cooling fan goes out on a desktop, you'll want to get it fixed/replaced asap.

It's a tower and it's refurbished. So much skinnier than my old one. I'm so please with it! He ordered it from Value Direct Electronics out of Texas. Their customer service was outstanding! I needed a lot of help setting it up. Their number is 912-572-3291 I don't know how much he paid for it. But I highly recommend this company! Keith is their tech and he's outstanding and patient.
