Not what's packaged in the store. Bought a family pack of hamburger there once several yrs. ago. Used some of it to make a hotdish & froze the rest. The hotdish seemed ok when I made it (refrigerated the leftovers immediately) but when I re-heated some the next day in the microwave, it just hastened the rotting process & stunk like a road kill on a hot summer day. Tossed the whole shebang & haven't touched their meat since. Besides, their hamburger is gross - looks like worms.
And I know someone who used to work in the meat dept. Said the meat (chops, steak, hamburger) sits out in the coolers for TWO WEEKS & if it doesn't sell, whatever is salvageable is then re-packaged w/SOME newer to cover over the old, sprayed w/red enzyme crap & given new sell-by date. :( Ever buy a nice, red/pink pkg. of hamburger or family pack of pork chops only to find out when you get it home & start separating it, it's not so nice & red/pink all the way thru to the inside/underneath but is more grey? That's because the older/grey meat pkgs. have been taken back out of the cooler, re-packed w/a layer of some newer red/pink slapped over it & given a new sell-by date, or it's been sprayed w/red enzyme.
Nice, huh? :(

If you are a HONEST trader, there is nothing to fear in having a feedback link. If you do not have one, please set one up, BEFORE contacting me for a trade. If you insist on not having a feedback link, please do not contact me to trade. Feedback links protect all of us, on RS. Thanks for understanding. At the one here, the "fresh" strawberries are so dang hard you could toss 'em like a brick & bust a window for sure. Bought some from Walmart once to make strawberry/banana smoothies & they made my blender scream for mercy. Anymore, if I don't pick the FRESH strawberries from a strawberry patch myself, or get them from the Amish, & freeze for later use, I just buy the bags of frozen ones. Might be kind of mushy when thawed out but it sure beats buying red golf balls. Ugh!

ETA: I also try to buy as much Angus beef as possible. It's not as fatty/greasy & doesn't shrink like reg. beef. Or I buy from the locker plant here in town. It costs a little more that way but I'm not a big meat eater to begin with, & better to get better quality than having to toss, so it's worth it for me.
Also, the Amish do NOT use chemicals, on their fields/gardens, in their food processing methods or in their farm animals' feed, so even the horse poop dropped on the road in their travels is safe altho maybe a bit of an irritation to the nose. LOL They do, however, have to buy some of their baking/canning supplies at the stores like we do - flour, salt, sugar, etc. - but it's the very basic necessities.

Keep in mind too, "organic" doesn't necessarily mean the food is completely chemical free or that it's safer/healthier. There are simply different FDA standards to follow in order for items to qualify as organic. Just an FYI. ;)

You hit the nail on the head Tami. I believe every word and stay away from their meat counter now and forever! YIKES 3|1|I won't eat their meat, either. Gross looking.|Arizona|vjast48@gmail.com|15:28:32|03/08/2014|

And remember the "pink slime" controversy? I cannot remember a word from them saying they would not use it. Yuck!

I also agree that produce does not look fresh. Lots of stuff looks like it was kicked around the block. 4|2|Walmart has a very poor storage problem|fbutte|fyb33@yahoo.com|23:02:01|03/08/2014|

Lots of complaints. Locally, they would only give a refund if you take it back within 24hours. The produce looks OK, but they are cheaper at the Asian stores. 8|2|LOL Vicki|pattyo|pattyolc@aol.com|03:30:41|03/09/2014|

even the produce doesn't look fresh at all. Here's another article about meat - Farmed and Dangerous. Virtually all of the meat and poultry found in your local grocery store comes from animals raised in so-called confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs). I only buy grass-fed meats from local farmers/CSA's.

No butcher on premise here because butchers are in a union in NJ so nothing is pkgd fresh here, ugh bought a big bag of oranges and it turned white in 2 days!! I buy canned and boxed items there only. I make out just as well or better on the majority of items with double coupons. Viva Shop-Rite!!

Their ground beef is the most tasteless meat I have ever eaten.Kroger near here buys the 4-H kids beef and sells it in the summer and it is marked as such.Very tender and good.We buy on the hoof and have it butchered, grown by local farmers as much as we can.
