3|1|Anyone remember the notorious snowstorms of '59 ?|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|22:18:04|02/15/2014|
It was a few yrs. before I was born but I've seen the pics. Yowza! My sister said she heard we're supposed to get a repeat next month of the snowstorms that hit in March 1959. I hope she's wrong cuz it was BAD! There was SO much snow that the drifts & plowed snow piles were as higher than the roof on a 1-story house. You could NOT see over them. Farmers had to store their milk in anything they could, from big coolers to their sinks & bathtubs as the milk trucks couldn't get thru for days.
My mom was pregnant w/one of my sisters & went into labor in the midst of it. They had to have a big grader come & plow the road to their house (they lived in the country then) & then plow the way to the hospital, so my dad could follow behind w/my mom. I've seen pics of the grader on the road it's clearly visible that the snow piles & drifts are waaaay above the top of the grader. You can't see any houses or barns anywhere in the background, barely a few trees, as everything is hidden behind the high snow.
