My dad passed away from COPD & Congestive Heart Failure. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, to go thru or to see a loved one go thru.
I will pray for peace for your dad.

Since you both have dads w/COPD & they are both Veterans, something you may want to check into is Alpha1-antitrypsin Deficiency. Especially if anyone else in your or your dad's family has any type of lung disease such as COPD, asthma, emphysema, bouts of bronchitis or allergies.
Alpha1-antitrypsin Deficiency is hereditary, a genetic predisposition to lung diseases. It, not smoking, is actually the leading cause of COPD & the other lung diseases I mentioned above. We have this in my family w/several family members who have had or have at least one type mentioned, most being non-smokers.
My dad was a WWII Veteran & since both your dads are also Veterans, it's quite possible they were exposed to chemicals & other lung irritants during active military duty or employment afterwards that irritated the already susceptible lungs. Smoking may not be the leading cause of COPD as most believe, but it too is an irritant that should be avoided w/this Deficiency.
I didn't find out about the Alpha1-antitrypsin Deficiency until after my dad had passed. It's helpful information to know for other family members, so lung irritants can be avoided if all possible to hopefully help prevent more/worse problems down the road. Perfume & perfumey type products, aerosol sprays, bleach, exhaust fumes from autos (diesel is the worst) & lawn mowers/chainsaws, weeds/grass, candles, smoke from a fireplace or woodstove/chimney, dust/sawdust, factory emissions, smog, just to name a few, are all lung irritants best avoided.
And the best thing you can do for your dads is get a dehumidifier & keep it in the same room w/him at all times. Air conditioners & Central Air units cool the air but don't actually dehumidify it very well. And make sure anyone who comes anywhere near him does NOT use perfume/aftershave or perfumey soaps.
Vinegar & mild scented Lysol/Pine-Sol are ok.

Kawanti, if your dad's not eating, it's likely cuz he's simply not hungry but it's ok. He'll eat if he gets hungry, but he may just not have any need for food, or as much food at this time, so try not to worry. If he likes candy, especially chocolate that easily melts in his mouth & doesn't require much chewing, bring him all the chocolate he wants & let him eat that whenever he feels like it, w/whatever his drink preference is - (not too cold) water, juice, sodapop, etc. Coffee, tea &/or soup are a little trickier for people w/later stage COPD as it requires more sipping if it's hot, & it's easier for them to choke on it or swallow wrong & get it into their lungs causing more coughing & increasing the risk of bacterial pneumonia. Milk increases phlegm & it's ok but should be limited or give 1 percent. Again, not too cold. The easier it is for him to eat or drink something w/out the risk of swallowing wrong or choking, the better.
And keep the air that he breathes in his surroundings a tad on the cool side, not cold but definitely not too warm. It'll be easier for him to breathe w/a bit cooler air, especially w/a dehumidifier going. If he gets cold, it's better he wear more/warmer clothes or have more blankets than to turn up the heat too much. He can always remove some of the clothes or blankets if he gets too warm. And keep his pillows propped up behind his back & head so he's not lying flat on his back in bed at any time. A half sitting position works good but then too, keep his tailbone well-cushioned w/a thick but soft mattress pad so it doesn't get sore from the pressure of being half propped up. Or one of those kids' small, inflatable pool rings/donuts can do wonders under the butt for people who have to spend alot of time in bed propped up. Just don't inflate it all the way, just enough to keep his tailbone off the bed. You can also cut a donut out of a chunk of foam.
These are some of the things I can think of right offhand now that helped make things easier for my dad, so I hope it helps yours. :)

ETA: I also wanted to add for kawanti's dad - if he's on Hospice & uses a nebulizer, ask Hospice if they'd be willing to try adding a dose of liquid morphine in w/his nebulizer meds, maybe .5 to 1 ml per treatment to start. The morphine in the nebulizer helps some to relax the inflammed tissue in the lungs.

besides the COPD he is not eating and is just skin and bones now. I'm afraid that something else will kill him like kidney failure or something else. He has been a stage 4 for 3 years now. At a point I have no idea what to do!
This is one reason why I pop in and out of site all the time here recently. Plus my husband is look at a major back surgery in a month or so. I'm just scared and terrified out of my mind . thank you all for listening, support, positive thoughts and prayer. tina 13|1|prayers going up for your dad and you and your family right now. I am the only one here just my hubby and 2 sons taking care of him
Hosparus is here to , they are a blessing that is for sure
I lost 13 members die in 2006-2007 watched my mom, best friend and both my graindparents and my uncle die to cancer. You'd think I could handle it a little better. But this Copd, smuther them to death basicly, and you can almost hear his lungs starting to close. A man that use to talk loud and proud now speaks soft and whispers and slow. This is one of the hardest thing in this live I've done. But I feel much better know that u and my fb friends are out there too. dad fell and broke his hip at the ball joint
he had emergency done and did very well
he still would eat tho, he would choke on everything
so now he is on a perrie diet and headed to a physic
therpy place for maybe a week or so.
I hope I'm doing the right thing, everyone says so !!
the hospital staff were terrific
I just hope this place, working and teaching him to walk, is just as good.
