I has been 1 year yesterday that Reba lost her daughter in that car crash, she wanted me to tell all of you who helped a GREAT BIG THANKS AND A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU
]AND YOUR FAMILIES.
If you can see your way to helping me with this huge bill email me and let me know--even a quarter would help. Raising the money by 1/31/14 is vital to my job and my paycheck --since it is only 20 hours I work, it is not a lot of money but I get by on it--but they are going to garnish my wages--which means that I would have to quit my job--and I cannot do that right now.
Anyway, I know that tons of people are having a hard time and trying to get by on what they have--we all are.

I'm not trying to pile on here - just wondering: Wouldn't staying on the job despite having a percentage of your paycheck garnished be better than having no steady income? Plus, if you quit you can't qualify for unemployment benefits.

Mine went up by over $130 this year, & my next door neighbor's went up by $200. :( We have our wonderful governor here to thank for it cuz all the while he was glowingly spouting off about property tax cuts, he was cutting big chunks of funding from the public schools. I'm not stupid. When school funding is cut the money has to come from somewhere & it's always out of the taxpayers. I knew taxes would be going up; I just didn't think it would be by that much. :(

And I've never heard of it being anyone else's responsibility to pay the taxes on YOUR income. When you have earned income, it is YOUR responsibility to file taxes & pay any that is owed if required, local or otherwise.
But if you're going to point the finger at your ex for failing to pay the local taxes on YOUR income, maybe you should ask him for the money.
Otherwise, I'm sure your city clerk would be willing to work w/you on some kind of payment arrangement. Garnishing wages is usually a LAST resort after other previous notices & attempts to collect have been ignored.

The timing of it would lead anyone to believe it was property taxes she was talking about cuz she didn't say it WASN'T property taxes either, til AFTER several people started posting about their own property tax bill & talking about mortgage escrow. She just said "tax bill" in her OP.
Property tax bills ALWAYS come around Christmas time & are due by the end of the following month of January. In her OP, she says she needed the money to pay it by "1/31/14". On the other hand, income taxes are ALWAYS in April, w/the deadline being 4/15 to file each year.
Until she posted later on, finally stating it wasn't property taxes after all but LOCAL taxes from her INCOME that was overdue from when she had been married, we all had no way of knowing or reason to believe otherwise, kwim?

I read this as saying your annual tax liability to Painesville amounts to ~1 week's salary. But you'd rather be completely unemployed (quit your job with no unemployment insurance possibility) than still having ~51 weeks of salary to spend?
I second other posters' concerns about not knowing enough re: your circumstances, as well as the observation that garnishing wages is usually the absolute last step after all payment "work-out" efforts have been exhausted.
