they are following obamacare. Obamacare says that ALL policies must have certain minimums/coverage, thus increasing our costs to have insurance.

I don't understand why maternity insurance is mandatory for post-menopausal women, women who have had a hysterectomy or for men. I saw on the news report that a man said that he needed to get a new, more expensive insurance that covered maternity for his 59 year old wife as required under Obamacare. Obamacare also wants immunizations covered on all policies - why do people who have grown children need to have this in their coverage?

Instead of upgrading their existing policies to meet the new minimum requirements set by the law , they are canceling them. So now you need to look for another policy, just like looking for new car or home insurance.

Adults need immunizations too! When was the last time you had yours? Older adults are recommended to have a tetanus and whooping cough booster as well as pneumonia, shingles and the flu shot.

As for the Maternity Care coverage requirement, did you know that only just 12 percent of total individual health plans in the country offered women maternity benefits before The Affordable Care Act passed?

and to quote Senator Tom Harkin : "Why should I have to have a policy that covers maternity care?” I got to thinking about that. I thought, you know what? Maybe because my wife and I do not have any more children and they are grown up, maybe I should not have to pay property taxes to pay for my local schools. Huh? Why should I worry about it? Maybe only people who have kids going to the public school should pay for it. We are better than that in this country. We are talking about being part of our society. It is to our benefit, my wife and I, to support our local schools because that is our next generation, we want them well taught. Same with health care. It is a values system."

for my individual policy. I'm a 50 year old woman, what the heck do I need pediatric dental coverage? But it is one of the 10 essential elements of insurance in my state, so they have a lovely little policy with 0.00 premium and almost no coverage that I had to apply for when I bought my new insurance plan. I spent an hour on the phone trying to figure out why it wouldn't let me complete the application for medical insurance without buying pediatric dental coverage, but they showed me this no charge option that meets the requirements.

I bought basically the same plan I had before but it added the mandatory "well baby care" at fully covered (before it applied to my deductible, but I don't care coz I can't have any more kids), and mental health care fully covered (before was only covered partially),everything else was pretty much already in my policy. But my deductible has gone up $600, my out of pocket max has gone up $800 and the premium has gone up $200 a month. Thanks, affordable health care.
