At least they were good enough to give him two months notice. My husband's previous employer laid him off in the morning and told him that it was his last day.
I hope things work out for you all. Hopefully he can find something else before the winter sets in. 3|1|I'm sorry to hear this, Robin....sending good thoughts for you both!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|14:45:49|10/01/2013|

Yes he can start applying, however, there is a retention bonus for them if they stay till when the company needs them - otherwise that goes away.

We'll make it, I'm sure... just very frustrating. 6|2|Robin.....i do not know what to say....i do know it sucks when one spouse is unemployed|BusterBrown|srfreezerqueen@hotmail.com|20:19:35|10/01/2013|

So, hubby is 66 years old. What are the real chances of him getting another job? Slim to none? So I'm trying to tell him that perhaps his next job won't be in his field of telecom... maybe he'll be in customer service or something non-medical at a hospital... But no way will I let him stay home. He has no hobbies, no real interests... he'd be one of these guys who would sit on the couch for 10 hours a day and I'd come home one day...

Even if this had happened a year ago... 65 is still not full retirement age, but 66 is. He actually should get his first measly social security check next week. Which I'm hoping he just puts straight in the bank.

Pulling hair out!!! 8|1|Around here a lot of the retured men go to work delivering parts for O'Reilly Auto Parts Stores.|20yrrefunder|tradernikki@yahoo.com|10:00:37|10/04/2013|

Each store around here hire retired men to deliver parts to auto repair shops, etc. It is part time and they can still draw their Social Security. It gives them as many hours a week as they want to work and is not strenuous and gets them out of the house and talking to people, etc. They drive the O'Reilly pickups to do the deliveries. HTH

And given his age, you're lucky you have that to draw on...its unemployment that's Measly. Hard to make it on just unemployment.

He'll find something. Sounds like if he sticks around knowing he will be laid off a certain date, he gets a bonus. That's not too bad.
And of course, given his age, he can draw his 401k without penalty (assuming he has one since most firms have no pension any more)

Losing a job is more a personal shock to him. I was laid off in 2010 after 20 years with same company. That hurt.

I have been with a new employer the last almost 3 years. It's actually better.
So take a deep breath and know it all works out.
14|4|Yeah this is his third time... but as we all know, the older you are, the more difficult it is to get something else.|whitmarg|robin@whitmannet.com|12:11:35|10/07/2013|
