Father works,mom cares for 4 rug-rats.
Rug-rat #3 has epilepsy.
How much can this family make and get some type of SSI for #3?
Thanks for helping 1|1|I don't know what the child will get. It varies with many different factors.. Also, the mom can be paid as a caregiver for set child. Start the process of applying for SSI. Be prepared for tons of motonous paperwork. Also be prepared to be denied first time round. If that happens, re-file.|Ranalt|ainebailey@gmail.com|22:19:43|09/29/2013|

and they must meet the asset/resource testing based on their parents savings which in the past has been $2.000.00 in resources. However, I have been to some workshops lately and have heard varying amounts up to $2500.00, so I am confused based on the varying information. I have always stuck by the $2000.00 amount limit. The $1040 is based on what a child can make which is the SGA amount. There are many many many variables. For a full SSI check my guess would be $1040-$1500, however some parental income is not counted because of living expenses and care for other children, so a family could make up to approximately $2400.00 per month and collect a smaller SSI amount. This is just a basic guess, you do want to call Soc Security.

this was pulled from SS website:
SSI rules about income
and resources
When we decide if your child can get SSI, we consider your child’s income and resources. We also consider the income and resources of family members living in the child’s household. These rules apply if your child lives at home. They also apply if he or she is away at school but returns home from time to time and is subject to your control.
If your child’s income and resources,or the income and resources of family members living in the child’s household, are more than the amount allowed, we will deny the child’s application for SSI payments
Your child must meet all of
the following requirements to be
considered disabled and therefore
eligible for SSI:
• The child must not be working and
earning more than $1,040 a month
in 2013. (This earnings amount
usually changes every year.) If he
or she is working and earning that
much money, we will find that
your child is not disabled.
• The child must have a physical or
mental condition, or a combination
of conditions, that results in
“marked and severe functional
limitations.” This means that the
condition(s) must very seriously
limit your child’s activities.
• The child’s condition(s) must have
been disabling, or be expected to be
disabling, for at least 12 months; or
must be expected to result in death.
If your child’s condition(s) results
in “marked and severe functional
limitations” for at least 12 continuous
months, we will find that your child
is disabled. But if it does not result in
those limitations, or does not result
in those limitations for at least 12
months, we will find that your child
is not disabled

some states have a higher amount because of state subsidies. But I would apply or at least call and ask. However, if the parent does meet the income limit it does not neccesarily entitle the child to the full amount of SSI. It is based on an income scale off of the parents(which is pretty in depth and would take a lot to explain). But remember if you qualify a $1 in SSi, you get Medicaid or the child would. At which point I would ask for a 'nursing assessment' which would indicate Medicaid reimbursable hours with pca services that the mom can be considered the 'caretaker' or 'pca service' and be given an hourly wage for the hours that were set forth from the nursing assessment. The only issue with this is...would SSI then count the money received from caretaking as income...and would that income then make the family over the limit for SSI? And with that, now my brain hurts!

4|3|Exactly, which is why I said it varies via many factors, including the caregiver pay :) No need for a headache this time of night.|Ranalt|ainebailey@gmail.com|23:04:15|09/29/2013|

Hey are tied into all other databases which monitor your ss# electronically in real time. They in NC have become watchdogs who have the job of trying to reduce the 'new welfare' and they take their job very seriously. Food stamps count as income. Getting Medicaid thru SSI exempts you from the rule about not having two cars, too. I was told that SSI is a rent and food assistance program at my last review but they lie to you too. As long as you get $1 in SSI your child will get Medicaid. You have 24 months of receiving no benefits before they close your case. If they close your case you have to start all over.

They refuse you the first time. I called my state senators office. They're swamped, overworked, and seem to have the mandate of getting or keeping folks off. Good luck! With my son's diagnosis they sent us to a round of their own doctors as if it's not possible to diagnose autism. It can be grueling and will take as long as they can make it take.

If we're gonna downsize the federal gov't I'd fire them all right after the house and the senate. Than FEMA and the iIRS, lol. 5|2|Kdrink, you said you have been to workshops recently. What's your field? I saw something recently and would like to do my own spin on it. |Ranalt|ainebailey@gmail.com|23:08:02|09/29/2013|

I would like to start up a website where someone could input their zipcode and find resources that might be available to them. My of my pet peeves is that people don't know how to obtain help other than each States' Assistance programs and there are so many programs out there.

That is an excellent idea. My pet peeve is that things can be so complicated and if you don't talk to the right person or have worked in the field for a long time, you may be told incorrect information. I see it happen and it can be difficult to resolve. I am fortunate in the way of knowing ( or thinking that I know) information for my area and kindly enter into arguments when I am told other than what I know. I have only lost once in 11 years after 9 hours of advocacy work on one particular subject, but it worked out anyhow just in a different way than what I expected. I think they were tired of hearing from me LOL. That of which was about a little known law passed by Congress and I still think that I am right because the law tells me I am, but the darn computer programs say it ain't so.

The charity programs are a big one, because lots of people know about foodstamps, ss, medicaid, but the charities, many of them aren't advertised. And if they are it may be for one particular thing, but when you contact them for something else, they sometimes will help. You only know if you ask. I often find out from word of mouth. I know many of them, but not all. For instance, I recently found out that there is a mattress store in town that gives out free mattresses and box springs to people who cannot afford to purchase one. It's ever changing. Go figure!

If you do do that website, let me know if I can be of any assistance.

It was very popular once. but pills replaced it, no profit for drug companies. Observations showed that 1/3 had 90% improvement, 1/3 50% improvement, and 1/3 quite the diet dued to the difficulty of keeping on it.

This diet is a high fat low carb diet. Fats should come from heavy cream, butter, and fatty vegetables. The hard part is no SWEETS of any kind(no candy or desserts), and no high carb food such as bread and pasta.

You can look it up on the internet. 9|6|so true, also good for cancer|cinda68|null@yahoo.com|18:39:20|09/30/2013|

Cancer cells have a huge appetite for glucose. The original theory in the 1920's was that cancer was a metabolic disease but there again, no profit to be made in it. So the gene mutation theory is what is standard theory today but there is a push to go back and look at the metabolic theory. 10|4|Kdrink, I figured you had to be in the business :)|Ranalt|ainebailey@gmail.com|20:40:02|10/01/2013|

its not worth it.......
my son is autistic..been told all these yrs my hub makes too much for him to get disability....when he turned

18..then my husbands wages no longer count..BUT..in order for me to get it ..I had to apply for guardianship of my own

kid....pay out of pocket for that....then go to court so I could be appointed.....then yearly..i gotta keep up with his assets..ect.and turn in a paper saying what he has earned..gotten in disability ect..and how much he still has in pocket...(at the time I applied for guardianship..he had no income ...did they want me to count this 18yr olds SMURF collection as an asset?)

then I applied for disability for him...we ran to this dr..that dr ..round and round...most were crazier than me......

finally.....I get a call saying come back and sign another paper ,she thought she had enough infor to push thru the system for
him to go ahead and get a check..even thought it wasn't final.......I got the check..went to the bank ......3 times..trying to open him a checking account...cause u gotta have that in place or they will put it on a card...bank wouldn't open one...even thou im
guardian..they gotta have a letter from ssi.........got one letter....wasn't good enough....
was told he would NOT draw full amount.....cause WE as parents had provided him with food and housing....(what the heck was I supposed to do.....he is my kid))) so first check..which was for 2 months.......had $274 cut from each month...because im taking care of my kid.... duhhhhhhh...
was told that when I got the ck..I could bring my bills in...and could make him pay a 1/4 of household expenses....and they would add that back to his check...........but only IF IM GONNA MAKE HIM PAY HIS SHARE OF THE BILLS......well who in their right
mind.....would not say u are gonna take that portion for bills.......my choice is.......they keep the $274 or I take the $274 for bills each month....and they add it back to his check....that's kinda a no brainer........
I took the bills over there......and tell me ..oh..it will be 2---3 months..before u see this hit back on his check to make him drawing his full amount........my opinion...another way to cheat a person out of what they should be getting..........

and.........as payee on his check..i also have to keep all receipts for what I spend on him....and what I let him spend......
what I don't get is........as a parent who has provided for and still continues to care for his every need......they run
me to death keeping up with all this crap......when people drawing on under age kids.....don't have to keep up with it and spend it on car payments ,cigerettes..and their kids come to school with nasty ,worn out clothes and shoes falling off their feet......

the reason for this is because you are his payee. Anyone who has a payee in the entire US, whether it be SSI or SS, has to fill out a payee verification form. This is to prevent victimization of funds.

The reason why SS has a law related to money (care for self vs. given $$ from friends and/or relatives) is that in any government program when you report that someone gives you cash gifts (or assistance other than the goverment with household expenses) it is counted as income. When those cash gifts are reported, the income is adjusted to reflect that. The reasoning behind many of the rules such as this is that there are people who take advantage of the system. It is a protection for the taxpayer, and minimal at best.

Yes, SS can be a hassle and there are a lot of hoops to jump through, but kudos for you for standing up and sticking by your son to assist him in getting benefits. 13|6|ssi is more work because it is income based need as well|cinda68|null@yahoo.com|14:31:31|10/02/2013|

It sounds like they must deem the parent's income to the child and then the child gets lower benefits. I know they do this with a spouse. The representative payee report used to be once a year, is that monthly now? There is monthly reporting of income and then once a year payee, wondering if the payee report is monthly now as well? 14|7|yearly..keep up with is spent monthly...report it yearly|couponsnsamples|cpsnsamples@aol.com|15:45:30|10/02/2013|

I "tried" to help a fellow refunder, a couple of years ago - who moved into my town so that her DH could get a job. They wound up getting $400+ worth of foodstamps a month. She did not drive, so I would go and get her and take her to the store. The only things that she bought was CRAP - lots of soda and potato chips - never saw her buy any milk even though she had two small children. She and her DH were chain smokers and smoked $100+ worth of cigarettes a week - so $400+ worth in a month. They were always behind in their rent and had their electricity and water, etc. turned off many times during the 2 years they were here. When they were packing up their car to move back east she asked me if I wanted what was in this box - BOOZE. They couldn't fit it in their car. At least two bottles of Crown Royal was in there. I did not take it - so don't know what they did with it. Her DH could not keep a job - wonder why????? Hate to think that my tax dollars were supporting her.

See my message from last night. They wear me out checking up on me (we used the $ for rent, and it doesn't even cover the rent so we have no extra). My kid is the kinda kid we have to dress and bathe and brush his teeth and wash his face. And organize him and provide snacks and lunch etc. he's a picky eater, rigid, poor motor skills (he did promise he would learn to tie his shoes in ot this year rofl. He also wakes up 5 or 6 times a night so we are always exhausted. We go to psych, counselor, a medical study at unc (he gets an experimental med that used to be used for alcoholism but has a side effect of calming behavior). I have to monitor him in all meds (taking, cause he hates them, lol, but between his morning and night meds he is very manageable). If I don't watch him I find pills in the rug, he's pretty tricky!

I feel exhausted and frustrated and I know that when I drive him to school he might be bullied but he's gotta go. He's just too big to homeschool anymore. And he loves carbs so he's gonna get bigger! I will be 55 soon and I am tired. Believe me, sometimes when he has a tantrum I wanna have a tantrum. But then, who'd help him with homework, make dinner, give him a bath and lie down with him until he went to sleep ?

Somehow, we both have the dream he'll be independent enough to get married one day rofl. I've already started to teach him about social expectations and now I'm adding in the personal, you know, like

Don't fart under the covers if you're in bed with someone (usually with mommy omw)
Don't belch and fart at the table.
No, it's not a good idea to try to get as dirty as you can (by not bathing for a month, yikes!) to see how large a ring you can leave in the tub
Yes, you must always wipe, and don't use the whole roll on your little pee-pee ;)
No! You can't spit liquid from your mouth to anyone else's especially at school!!!!!
Yes, girls are different, no touching allowed!!!
Carbs are not your friend, and you can't have Doritos and pretzels and cake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!! Ever!
If you want a wife you have to brush your teeth when you wake up, not a week from Tuesday !!!
You have to acknowledge when folks are talking to you or speaking to you, or else no one will know you like them!
And finally, if someone is hitting you or throwing water on you or ignoring you, they are NOT your friend. (See how it feels?)
