8 0|0|So, there is no place where you can buy 100-watt light bulbs now??|TIM2|99smokey@comcast.net|11:55:39|06/30/2013|

I was looking for some the other day and was told they were banned and replaced with the more energy-efficient kind (the kind that look like big coils). I bought some of the new bulbs but didn't get the light quality I'm used to with the old bulbs. If the 100-watt ones can't be found, what is the brightest of the newer ones. Any info is helpful--thanks!

their shelves. Our home owned hardware store still has some. He said he wouldn't be able to order more when he sells these . I agree that the light quality is not nearly as good in the new coil type bulb.My old ceiling fan had the old type bulbs. My new fan has the candelabra bulbs & I am not happy with the light they out out! Seems like we don't have a choice.

Better stock up when you can find them cuz ALL of the rest of the incandescent bulbs (75, 60, 40, 25, etc.) will eventually be gone too so there will soon be only those CFL/curly ones. In my opionion, the cfl ones are crap for lighting, but someone w/alot of money decided to "save energy" w/light bulbs as well & push for the ban of the incandescent. Don't know how it saves energy when you have to wait about 10 min. for the cfl ones to finally brighten up enough to see. And when they're cold (like in porch lights or out in the garage), they take forever. :(
Maybe they figure we'll all go blind from such crappy lighting that it won't matter if the cfl ones are bright enough or not. ;-P

I need 40 and 60 watts for my light fixtures, all I can find lately are 100 which are too much for my lights.

I guess I'd better search around some more to see what I can find and start stockpiling them. Thanks again!

I could always find the regular 60, 75 or 100 w bulbs in a 4-Pk at Kroger or Walmart for no more than $1.25
These new bulbs cost three and four times that and don't seem to last any longer! 6|2|I started stocking up 3 years ago.|fbutte|fyb33@yahoo.com|18:41:21|07/01/2013|

I now have a 16 year supply. I hate the CFL's. Not only do they give off a harsh lightm they are dangerous to the environment and you. They give off a low level radiation, (ok for ceiling) because it is far from you). Dangerous for lamps. Also it is coated on the inside with mercury(a very dangerous element).

So folks PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE recycle them properly. Don't want it to leak into the underground water supply. You can NOT put them with your regurlar recyeables, they will break and ruin all of the other recycleables. If one breaks, wear mask and sweep it up, not vacuum. It is poisonous, causes mental problems, especially to the young.

CFL's are meant to be on for a long time continuously. Turning them on and off shortens its life. Also they are meant to be hung upside down. Having them right side up also shortens their life.

STOCK UP. until LEDs are available. LED's are more economical than CFL's. They use 1/2 of the energy of CFLs. and the bulb lasts for literally years. Even tho they may cost $9 a pop, they will last you 6-20 years, depending on use.
