Oh, it wasn't pretty. I was at a doctor's appointment and gave my debit card to pay my co-pay. No go... tried again... no go. So, I take out another card, all the while shaking my head because I KNEW I had money in there. So as she's processing that, I'm on my phone in the bank app. And I'm MINUS $500!!! OMG... In the app I can't see full details, so to avoid problems, I transfer $500 from savings to checking.
When I got to work, I logged on and had over 30 transactions against my debit card from various video download companies around the world -- Luxembourg, Romania, California, NJ, Arizona, Florida.
Called the bank and he told me that all 30 took place in a 15 minute period of time yesterday morning and totalled over $800!!! Ugh... So we shut off the card immediately and now I have to wait for each transaction to post before I can contest them. He said there's a possibility they won't all post, however, the first two did today. Oh, what a royal pain in the butt. Now those things I have connected to the card (most importantly, my Dunkin Donuts reload account!!! and one of Jr's student loans) will have to be reset. I have to go get a new card tonight or tomorrow. IF they all do post, I will have to wait for each of those to return to my account. They assure me they will, but 30 transactions... In the meantime, I have no cash and no way of getting it until I get a new card, so I have been living the life of a cheapskate... oh, I mean worse than usual!
Just a very uncomfortable feeling...
And the day got worse.....
My mother in law was just diagnosed with lymphoma -- it's everywhere. She's 91 and is not going to do chemo (who could blame her). Hospice is coming in and she's ready. She just wants to be with my father in law. I've never seen a couple so in love and a woman so lonely as she has been since he passed a few years ago. Sad, very sad, she's been so important in my life. But I know she needs to do this her way and I admire that.

...last year. I logged into my hubby's acct and see an $800 purchase for designer mens clothing store in London. It's jeans and t's for my hubby and he would NEVER purchase $800 worth of clothing-EVER! That happened on a Friday and his paycheck had just come in so it tied up all our money, not only for the weekend but for days until it actually posted. We were broke cuz, well, we live paycheck to paycheck. So, we go to get a payday loan to get by. Get a new debit card, etc, etc. Then 3 weeks later-it happens again! Only this time, the stinking BANK REOPENS the closed debit card because another large debit is coming in, this time from Spain. WTH??!! The acct was noted and debit card was closed, why on earth did they think they were doing us a FAVOR by posting it? So again, we were broke for the several days it took to get it straightened out. We got fees refunded but it was a huge hassle.
So, yeah, I know how it is! Sorry that happened to you :(

we got hacked. Get this he/she bought spy stuff on line.
Then found out he tried to get into government stuff etc.
BOA put the funds back but when they couldn't get them back
they took those out and left us in the hole $800!
5|1|Robin, was your debit card part of that HUGE hack out there in the east? Over 30,000 numbers hacked and over $40 million in about 10 hours....I saw a brief article yesterday evening on Yahoo news. And my prayers will be with your MIL, and the family, as she prepares for her last days.
