Thoughts are with you and him!!!Hi all, my name is Sandy and I've been a board member for a long time. Left over a year ago and haven't posted but I need help ... PLEASE. My DH was in a horrific car crash on Wednesday in Kansas City (for any of you in this area it was the car crash on I35 and Chouteau Trfwy on Wednesday morning). He is alive but we don't know if he's going to make it. He's had both legs amputated from the knee down and has another amputation scheduled for Tuesday where they will take more of the legs ... possibly up to the hips but we don't know yet. To date he's had 3 surgeries (amputations and skin grafts). He was burned over 65% of his body. Tomorrow he has another surgery scheduled for more skin grafts. Tuesday is the upper leg amputation. Wednesday he has a skin graft surgery for his back and arms. And there's another surgery next Friday but I can't even remember what that one is for. Please pray for him. The doctors are amazed at how he is still avlive so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pray that the will to survive stays with him. I've started a facebook page to update on his condition (and as a little therapy for myself). Please visit it and pass it on to friends who can pray over him also. Also, if anyone would like to send him a card we would appreciate it. He is in KU burn center in ICU and can't have flowers or stuffed animals but can have cards and balloons. We're allowed to "decorate" the room so cards would be awesome. He's always loved the outdoors ~ especially looking at deer. He's a shop foreman for a sheet metal company and loves what he does so he is very interested in pics of art made from metal. He has an awesome sense of humor so any cards with jokes we could read to him would be great.
Please pray that I have strength to stay positive for him. I'm just at a complete and utter loss with him lying in the hospital. I'm in law enforcement (Deputy at Clinton County MO) and should know how to handle these things but I feel like I'm just chasing my tail in circles and accomplishing nothing! :(

Thanks to all for the well wishes and prayers. Today they told us he had developed pneumonia. Tonight his fever had crept up to about 104 but they were flooding him with antibiotics and they did some procedure to get sputum out of his lungs so pray that he will respond to that. Thanks ~ Sandy

Thanks for all for the emails and prayers. Rodney's fever spiked at 104 during the night but is down to 102 right now. He has another surgery scheduled for today and it's good his fever is down because the surgery is what the doc called a "life saving surgery" which means it has to happen whether he has a fever or not and the lower the temp the better his body can tolerate yet another surgery. I'm posting some pics of the wreck for anyone who does want to see them. They are pretty graphic (in a couple the vehicles are still burning) so if that's something that may make you queasy do not click on them.
The white Dodge Ram that is on it's side is our truck. He was burned so badly because he was trapped in the truck. The driver of the van got out without a scratch and is fine. The other vehicle that looks like a car is actually a small truck and, by the grace of God (!!!) the owner walked away without serious injuries. His family has contacted me on The Guy in the White Truck facebook page that I set up and wants to meet us! They are coming today. We've gotten to meet a couple of the other people who were there so I'm happy we get to meet the Mendoza family, too!

Thanks to all for the prayers and good wishes! Today was suppose to be a "day off" for Rodney meaning a no surgery day but his body is not getting enough nutrients. The burn was over 65% of his body and it had thrown his system 10 kinds out-of-whack. They are going to take him down today and remove the feeding tube from his stomach and have it inserted into his intestines so he can get and absorb more nutrients. Thanks to all for the prayers. They have certainly been felt. Rodney had another surgery today. The biggest one yet. Obviously the double amputation was a long procedure but the burns on his back had gotten infected and they needed to get that skin excised. He is a large man and today they did that surgery. It was a long one but he did fine. Today is one week ago that this happened and he is more stable than they ever thought possible. He is still on the critically injured list but all the issues that could have arisen from the trauma to his body, so far, have been minimal.
