My folks are having to move out of their house after 50 years to a small apartment. It is killing them to go through their stuff and they can only take so much. The real problem, my dad is a collector. Over the last 50 years, he has filled the basement with Statue of Liberty and other patriotic items, and a smaller collection of Vegas stuff and Polish items. We are talking anything with a Statue of Liberty on it, from pencils to large very expensive crystal items, stationery, etc. He has Vegas placemats, coasters, ash trays, matches, etc.
Some of it is worth something, a lot is kind of junk, but he wants to sell it. He doesn't want to just donate it unless he is sure somebody will really appreciate it, and refuses to just throw anything away.
My mom has posted these things on Craig's list and ebay, sold a few things, but we are talking about 9 bookshelves crammed with stuff. Anybody have any ideas on where might be a good place to try to sell these or donate them? Or how to "package" it so somebody takes all of it or a lot of it? My mom is planning garage sales as soon as it stops snowing, doggone weather, but thes are not things people are going to come to garage sales to buy.

1|1|Hi Sue! I have an idea. Do they belong to a church? They could have a church bazarr and donate some of|lv2qpon|jcummins1@rochester.rr.com|15:07:29|04/02/2013|
the proceeds to the church and a lot of people might come if the event was well advertised in a local newspaper. That way the event could be held inside as your parents are older and it would be difficult for them to be outside for any length of time. 2|1|Do you have any unused Vegas postcards?|marybeth|randall3@aol.com|15:13:44|04/02/2013|

11|1|A Local Auction House? see inside|needadeal|ludlow79@aol.com|11:50:35|04/16/2013|
Perhaps you could call a local auction house that has weekly auctions and see if you could add his items to one of their auctions.
Might be worth a try. Then, when you know the date, go on craigslist to promote it.
Just a thought.
