I have not been on here much lately because of caring for my Mom. She was placed on Hospice a week ago, she has had nothing to eat or drink in over 72 hours because she can not swallow. Someof you may remember she broke her hip last May and has been bedbound since then. I moved her into my home about 18 months ago and she has been such a blessing to me. I love her so much....she was and is such a wonderful Mother. As I write this I am listening to her breathing and holding mine every time there is a pause. She still hasnt had any intake since Wednesday morning. She will answer me ocassionally but the one thing she always answers is when I tell her "I love you." She always say "I love you too, baby." I am her baby, I was the youngest of seven. I have two brothers who have passed away. I gave her permision to go this morning. I told her I would be OK and reminded her of everyone she would see when she gets to heaven. I know she is worried about me most since we were so close.I hope my permision will help her to let go.
Her hands held me gently from the day I took my first breath.
Her hands helped to guide me as I took my first step.
Her hands held me close when the tears would start to fall.
Her hands were quick to show me that she would take care of it all.
Her hands were there to brush my hair, or straighten a wayward bow.
Her hands were often there to comfort the hurts that didn't always show.
Her hands helped hold the stars in place, and encouraged me to reach.
Her hands would clap and cheer and praise when I captured them at length.
Her hands would also push me, though not down or in harms way.
Her hands would punctuate the words, just do what I say.
Her hands sometimes had to discipline, to help bend this young tree.
Her hands would shape and mold me into all she knew I could be.
Her hands are now twisting with age and years of work,
Her hand now needs my gentle touch to rub away the hurt.
Her hands are more beautiful than anything can be.
Her hands are the reason I am me.

It is not selfish to feel the way you do & it's ok. You're just being human. :) As much as we don't want to lose our loved ones, we don't want them to suffer or to be in pain either. Your mom's body is likely shutting down so she has no need for food or water; it is a natural occurance w/the reflex ability to swallow shutting down 1st, so try not to worry that she may be hungry or thirsty.
You're a wonderful daughter to her & I've no doubt she knows that & it is reassuring to her. Giving her permission to go was a very selfless thing to do; it let's your mom know you'll be ok, & you will. Even in passing, she will forever be w/you, in your heart & in spirit, & she will still always be there for you. You'll see. :)
