The 12th season of American Idol is now on TV. The judges this year are: Keith Urban, Niki Minaj, Randy Jackson, and Mariah Carey. Mariah and Niki don't get along. Tonight's show was the guys and girls Semifinals. Ten singers from each gender are whittled down to five from each. Then from there, the singers really compete for the title.
Tonight it was the ten women singers, competing to be in the finals (the top 5 for women). The female singers are:
* Zoanette Johnson: she came out warbling a Tina Turner song. I think it was horrid; she was out of tune and off key.
* Breanna Steer: I wasn't impressed with her singing, and neither were the judges. However, she was better than the first singer.
* Aubrey Cleland: her song choice was good; she has a very nice voice. A Top 5 contender.
* Janelle Arthur: very good voice, nice singer. She is a country singer. A Top 5 contender.
* Tenna Torres: good song choice, good voice. Niki liked her "boobs" (her words).
* Angie Miller: a smooth voice and a nice singer. A Top 5 contender.
* Amber Holcomb: excellent voice, very strong. She sang a Whitney Houston song. Received a standing ovation from the judges.
* Kree Harrison: a country singer with a very good voice. She sang a Faith Hill song. The judges really loved her, especially Niki who called the singer "her wife". A Top 5 contender.
* Adriana Latonia: representing Alaska. She has a nice voice but the judges weren't too impressed. Nikki told the singer (who is the youngest of the girls) to "come back next year" and try again.
* Candice Glover: a strong voice. Was given a standing ovation by the judges. A Top 5 contender.

Here is the list of the ten guys who are in the semifinals. They all sang tonight, and will be whittled down (along with the girls) on tomorrow night's AI show.
* Elijah Liu -- sang a Rihanna song; is 18 y.o.; nice voice; a top-5 contender
* Cortez Shaw -- sang a Bruno Mars song; seemed a bit off-key and pitchy; the judges notices it and thought he was just so-so, especially regarding his song choice.
*Charlie Askew -- the most diverse guy competing; sang a Genesis song (which I happened to have liked); gave a spirited but dark performance and has a big voice range; the judges not too impressed, especially judge Nikki, who was upset that "she wants her cute, cuddly baby back"; he had a shaky emotional moment after the judges' critiques.
* Nick Boddington -- nice performance and he has a smooth voice; played the piano.
* Burnell Taylor -- likes to use his hands a lot while singing; the judges liked him; a Top-5 contender.
* Paul Jolley -- gave a good performance and has a nice voice.
* Lazaro Arbos -- excellent performance and has a very nice voice; he stutters badly when speaking but you would never know that from his singing; a Top-5 contender.
* Curtis Finch, Jr -- standing ovation from the judges, very good performance; a Top-5 contender.
* Devon Velez -- outstanding performance; judges and the audience loved it; sang half of his song in Spanish; a Top-5 contender.
* Vincent Powell -- his nerves seem to mess his performance up and was commented on by the judges.
There you have it. The Top 5 girls and guys will be voted on by the public, and announced tomorrow night (Thursday).
