so heart breaking. He has lived with us for the past 8 yrs. He went in the hospital on 2/10, to Hospice on 2/25 and passed away the next day. Going to KY tomorrow for his service on Saturday. After his life insurance (which wasn't much) I am still going to owe the funeral home $5000. My husband hasn't been working much, I get a set number of hrs. a week, we are a little behind in bills and I just don't know how I am going to make it. I haven't had time this past 2 weeks to try and auction anything between working and going to the hospital. And now that he is gone I have to make some kind of arrangments for someone to stay with my daughter when her dad is on the road and I am working nights. I'm sorry for your loss and I know what you are go ing through... When my mom passed away it was hard on my pocket book, my mom had strict what she wanted so that helped a lot. I do not know if what your traditional funeral is but my mom wanted to be creameted, she didn't want a wake but my brothers wanted one but I knew she didnt want to be displayed out in the open. So, we creamated her before her wake and they viewed her in her urn. It cost a lot less renting the coffin, hearse etc... I only found life insturance policies for $4,000 so I have to cover the rest. There is some kind of finance papers I have to fill out next week but if that goes through then you have to pay the rest in 6 payments to avoid interest and there is no way I can afford an extra $1,000 a month. I would be doing good to pay an extra $100 a month. We leave tonight for KY, service is tomorrow and we return home on Sunday. I go back to work on Wed. so I will be trying to do some goodie boxs over the next several weeks to try and earn a little money that way until nice weather comes and I can have a garage sale. The casket and vault were around $4,000 and the rest is the added expenses of everything else. I'am not even having a showing here in OH and only have a grave side service in KY. Just to transport him from OH to KY cost $800, they charge $2 a mile and the obit in the paper which is a small obit cost $115. my mom's was somewhere between $7 and $8 thousand but on tv they advertise in Columbus they will do it for $3,500 and another said they would for $2,500 gotta wonder what you get for that.my brother's who dies shortly after was $6,000 the same place he didn't have much insurance but bascily same funeral.We also found a huge different in headstones,its pays to look around for those 14|2|Of course it is too late for you now since you singned for the $10,000, but I am sure they will do the funeral for what you have for money. Finally went and prepaid and they got the cheapest
of all,coffin,vault,wake,funeral etc and it was 10,400!!
Of course we are in the high rent district of Raleigh,NC.
