I am looking for ideas from those of you who have been there before...what would you have liked to known ahead of time? What would have made things easier for you? What had you wished you had done different? etc...
I am aware it will be very painful and very frustrating, what I am looking for is ideas on how to do things (like pull up my pants..lol), how to be prepared (someone at work said button/zip front tops?), and how you slept (someone at work said the recliner for a month??) How long before the really bad pain subsides (I know everyone is different)

Be sure to have lots of pillows for the arm that will have surgery, you will NEED the support.
As far as dressing goes, Todd was able to help me with that. The only thing I didn't like was the shot they give you in the neck to numb the shoulder. You might feel like you're not able to breath but you can and you will be able to.
ALWAYS AND EVERYDAY, do the P.T. that they have you do --- PT is the only thing that is going to get your shoulder to feel better, alot of the exercise I had to do - I could do at home. It's (surgery) really was not as bad as I had thought it would be.

I can honestly say that this surgery was one of the least painful. I was having meniscus surgery on my knee when they dropped me off the gurney because the wheels weren't locked!!!! Luckily the only damage was to my right shoulder hence the rotator cuff repair. I really don't remember much about it except for the first week afterwards being sore and out of commission. Have a positive attitude going in, say a little prayer and all will be well :) Good luck Kelly!!

I had rotor cuff several years ago and complete reversal shoulder replacement this summer,I thing the roto cuff was the most painful,just do what the Drs. tell you and you will be fine,I took the meds they gave me till the pain wasn't as bad then just otc
my hubby had it done and lifted our grandson too soon and had to have it done over so just be careful

it was just easier, you probabaly won't be able to shower or wash your hair for a week or so just take it real easy and use ice packs as much as you can tp keep down the swelling, the hardest part was pulling up my panties and then later my pants, hubby did have to help with that, I don't remember getting a shot but know I did cause it was numb,it is a painful operation but your arm is going to feel so much better. pain from the tear I would just let it heal on it's own. I have torn rotator tendons before and just let them heal. They should be able to just scope the bone spur.

make sure they authorize the physical therapy chair for your recovery. My DH
has had both of his shoulders done so I know how much "the chair" will
help with your recovery
The chair completely supports you arm while it moves it around. This
way your other muscles won't atrophy and keeps good blood flow to
the surgical site which will promote a quicker recovery.
Always wear you sling in public, even when you're not wearing it
at home. It seems to do a good job of getting people in close
proximity to not bump into you....and maybe even open doors for you!
If you're sensitive to pain meds, consider asking for a prescription for
a sedative type drug such as hydroxyzine. Or check with your doctor if
you can take generic Benadryl with the pain meds. These types of meds
will reduce and/or prevent the nausea (or vomiting) that often accompanies a
Schedule II or Schedule III narcotic. You do NOT want to be throwing up
after rotator surgery!
PS It's amazing how much you will be able to do with the arm because you
can still bend it at the elbow

it's a therapy chair that you sit in for a few hrs each day.
YOu strap your arm to a "platform" of sorts so that it is not
doing any lifting on its own. The platform raises your arm
and moves it up & down. It's all passive movement on your end.
This movement is supposed to prevent the shoulder from freezing up
and locking and prevents scar tissue from forming. Really keeps
this loose for you which is very important.
