On Tues., my van is running a bit rough & sounding like it's missing. Long story short there, I had to get new spark plug wires. But it was still running funny so mechanic sprayed a little fuel injection cleaner in the carburetor saying that if it didn't get better in a day or 2 to bring it back in. Still running funny but I put gas in it yesterday & a bit later it seemed to have straightened out & running smooth again. Before that, I call my main mechanic & ask if he can check it over anyway. He says bring it in about 9 this morning. I get going this morning & still running pretty smooth so when I get to his shop we decide to let it go, probably just a bit of moisture that needed to get spit out. But my "Check Engine" light is still on so he says just a minute & he'll get rid of that for me. He comes out to my van w/his scanner thingy & he revs the engine a little bit, just to make sure it's running ok. As he revs it, we hear a bang, sounds like it backfired I say (my hearing is bad so some sounds are distorted). He says that wasn't a backfire & looks underneath my van. Drive axle busted. Crap! He shuts it off & we go back inside his shop & he's on the phone right away ordering a new one. He's going to run me home so we go back outside & my van is gone! Here, w/the broken drive axle it rolled back, almost to the end of his lot, before finally stopping. LOL
We're both laughing & he's apologizing for the broken axle & all, but all I could think & say was Thank God I didn't change my mind about having him check it over, that he wanted to clear that "check engine" light, & how lucky can I be that the axle broke while parked in his shop lot & NOT while I was driving it out on the road! Whew!

Sure looked lonely out in my garage w/it gone, & I always feel so isolated/stuck anytime I have to leave it overnight for a repair. Glad to have my transportation & independence back! LOL
Yes, Vicki my mechanic is a super nice guy, & he just so happens to be my cousin as well. LOL He's single too & for years, we've been trying to think of who we could fix him up with. She'd have to be some really special gal cuz he's not only super nice, he has a heart of gold & will do anything for anyone. All my friends are spoken for so I'm low on ideas. LOL
And I think he's adopted just about all the stray kitties on that side of town so has a small army of cats in various sizes & colors keeping him company in his shop. LOL Guess that's ok cuz he spends about 12+ hrs. a day, 6-7 days a week, there. Thus the need for that special gal who'd be ok w/that & willing to share him w/all his customers, along w/sharing the tender heart he has for animals. ;)
