Ok, So when my DS was 3.5 he was diganosed with Autism and at first I bought it becuase he did do some things but were always short lived. At 6 he was given an ADHD primary diganose. I am offically baffled as his Autism signs are his ADHD signs.

Here is all goes from then to now:
(1) The Special Education Preschool Teacher was shocked he received an Autism Diganose because she in all her years never seen a child with autism that hyperactive (and yea she was pretty old)
(2) Part of his Treatment from when he was 3.5 was to put him on a visual schedule. At 4 I had made the school take it down due to his "flipping out" over needing a picture for every little thing. The teacher stated that "he needed it for his treatment" and I said NOPE. She did take it down and later made a comment that he was "extremly smart becuase he looks at the other childrens schedule to find out what is going on next" That was fine with me as he was not needing a picture from me to get in the car. We went back for our 6 month apointment and told the docotor and she offered to put him on an anxity medication which I refused at the time becuase he was way to young.
(3) Part of his Treatment was Pressure Sensory. At one point I cought wind that he refused the Pressure sensory that they preformed on his head at school as he didn't want it at home either. Short time later he was put in some "hug shirt" which is a vest with weights to preform pressure sensory which is good for the children that do have Autism. He haded it and did express to have some behavoir issues with that as well so I asked school to stop it. The teacher insted he needed it.
(4) Another child with an Autism diganose was seen by the school's ASD specialist and at some point must of gotten some advice from her reguarding my son without my permision becuase she later stated that "autism, adhd, odd" are hand in hand and that is my little boy. We didn't agree here at all and he did not attend preschool last year at all.
(5) This year he was in kindergarten and we had some behavior issues again and this time he can speek better. He did some Joint Compressions (antoher autism sensory) and said "mrs homen said I like this" and I left it alone. But after chucking books at me I yaned him from school. Shortly after teaching him at home I asked him to do the Joint Compression Mrs Homen tought him and he said "I hate it" and refused to do it. He knows how but will not do on his own or wants you to do it. Recently he told me of some other items he was told to do at school and said it was just him and Mrs Homen and shows me what he is doing. Ok I guess it's a Joint compression (not for sure but would seem like one) and then tells me "he hates it and it hurts his head".

From what I have read up on Autism vs ADHD is that they do go hand in hand. Children with Autism seem to like JOINT COMPRESSION, PRESSURE SENSORY, SOFT TOUCH SENSORY. This also goes with the Aspergers (spelling ?) as well. ADHD children do not like them.

I have had several schools tell me that he was the most HYPERACTIVE child they have ever seen with AUTISM...another big question for me to ponder.

Speach: they can be the same for children with Autism or ADHD but are considered differently at the same time because of "high pitch when speaking" and off medication he is "high pitch" and on medication (low dose that the doctor put him on 1 mg -1/2 pill every 12 hours) he is still high pitch. Recently I chose not to listen to the doctor and uped his medication on my own (1mg every 12 hours) and he is not as high pitched. Also I noticed he has had issues with "v" and "th" and a few other areas as well...on his medication he needs to be corrected but was able to do his "v" and "th" just perfectly fine. THIS was his "AUTISM" trait and not his "ADHD" trait but I did my homework prior to the ADHD Primary diganose and asked the doctor if it is in children that have ADHD as well and she didn't want to lie and said yes.

Trips over his own to feet: ok both areas can do this but from watching his little feet move I stated to correct this area myself with out needing an OT (opc. therapy)...I noticed like an child with Sever ADHD he was taking LARGE steps and not watching what he was doing or going and trip over his own to feet. I have sense told him to take little steps not such big setps and we have been doing a lot of walking without tripping over our own two feet. It snows here and he is wearing snow boots and noticed that he walks and runs better as he feet sometimes go out or in and are not always straigt but they are a really good pair and make him go straight so he needs ancle suppport as well.

Eating: Ok children with Autism need sonsory items in the mouth becuase they like the prssure but some foods can set them off becuase of tates or texture. From what I can see...HE NEVER STOPS EATING....infact he barely chews just swallows so he can get up to go play ASAP...which makes him puke so I have to hold him down for a bit.

I think he has ADHD and not AUTISM and yet the doctor wants me to fill out the ASPERGERS paperwork which I refuse. All his traits are also ADHD and on top of all that he is calm on the medication...still gotta go, go, go but not as bad. Its really nice!

She has came a long way. At first they said adhd. She would dry to roam all over the place. Couldn't play right etc.
Then they tested her in kindergarten and gave her the diagnoses of autism.
Later they said aspergers. We paid for a formal testing. Found out she is MR and has traits of aspergers.
They can change all the time. Also with his diagnoses he should get SSI
Megan still don't like some stuff.Clothes that don't feel right. She has at least
15 soaps and body washes in her shower.Sometimes she doesn't like any one to touch her. It has been a hard road. And when they get older just different problems.
She also has severe anxiety. They put her on busbar (sp) it has made the biggest difference. I told the Dr,why the other Drs hadn't tried it?
Another thing they really has help is she got a boy friend,he has helped her so much. Now they are engaged! I wish you all the prayers you can get,if you need

I think I could write a book, but that's another story......The bottom line is that if he was in school he would qualify for an IEP. It is important to express your concerns with the school and work with them or at least give the appearance of such. There are several reasons for that, especially if it needs to be challenged and goes to an administrative appeal level. It appears that he qualified for other services such as OT. It is not uncommon for children with ADHD (or Aspergers/Autism) to have sensory issues and it appears that he does. Children who have sensory issues can benefit from OT, even if they don't initially like the therapy. It is a process. You can also get a second opinion or look into a naturopathic doctor. Severe food allergies have been linked to Autistic/ADHD like behavior. Is it possible for your to have a speech delay or deficit? Perhaps that needs to be evaluated. I don't treat my child with medications, I prefer not. My suggestion would be to read and continue to research your beliefs.....you just might find what you're looking for. Not every child or person is a classic textbook case. Lots of factor play into behavior, growth, and development. Good luck 5|5|IEP|Animal|a-alston@hotmail.com|22:52:30|01/18/2013|

I did try to get him an IEP. He didnt qualify for OT when being revulated, I asked....they noticed what I noticed so I changed from low top to hightop shoes and tought him to take small steps and he no longer trips over his own two feet. The kid needs some ankle support thats for sure, but he doesnt walk into things at all. The docotrs ruled it as ASD not something else! I cant even get him tested bc it can only be ASD and only need to see hom every 6 months and dont even bother to evulate what I say. I did ask for Other Health Services and for a 504 plan was denied. He doesnt have sensory issues, From experience when a person says ASD and kid refuses the normal stuff your typical ASD child likes all of a suddon its sensory issues when that is not the case. Which brings me to belive no one knows what ASD is as if one really does their homework Majority being diganosed with ASD is CHILDREN and Majorty being diganosed with ADHD only is ADULTS. 6|5|Very true!|angNC|memawang@nc.rr.com|00:01:07|01/19/2013|

You can demand what you want to get him in IEP 7|6|Under IDEA he WOULD qualify as OHI|kdrink|kdrink34@yahoo.com|18:40:16|01/20/2013|

ADHD qualifies as other health impaired, so does ASD, however it must affect his learning or the learning of others for an IEP, but the child would qualify as 503 and don't let anyone tell you different. ADHD children do in fact have sensory issues, it would show up on the OT report. Now if the school is giving you difficulty etc... google this: Wrights Law..........it is very detailed and it will teach you many things. My son who has ADHD and was in fact evaluated and in fact I was told that he did not qualify for OHI or an IEP by not only the principal, but by 2 Psychologists, another school principal and the many other school employees who sat in on the very same meetings I attended and did not say a word!!!! So, don't be naive to think that schools, teachers and administrators have your child's best interest at heart. I only speak from my experience and frankly, will never vote for another mill levy for the schools or its teachers ever again! However, because I am schooled somewhat on IDEA and the federal rules for Special education after much energy, whining, and forcing it with at the state level mu child was granted an IEP. I suggest you go to Wrights Law and read and re-read. Email me with any questions.
