used to give out free sometime back. Why not let the people 'buy' it at a reasonable price even? Those monthly give aways of the great block of cheese, peanut butter and other goodies was a really nice thing. Stretched the budget like crazy. I myself would buy the gov't cheese if they had it reasonable and for sale. That was good stuff! :) 1|1|they still give out commodities to the elderry here but u have to be over 65 :(|gwens29|gwen41539@bellsouth.net|10:28:18|12/23/2012|

o When I donated years ago they said the goverment cut those things out and didn't offer them anymore, this was over 10 years ago, I thought what a shame! The churches are being overwhelmed and they are picking up the slack helping people to eat where are goverment falls short.

need the stuff of course along with the elderly/disabled etc. I know when I first got my divorce although we BARELY made it literally financially I STILL didn't qualify for food stamps but did qualify for the food pantry (here that is once a month only) Didnt' make sense at all but Indiana is horrible at helping the people who need it for ANY reason whether it's food, shelter, or any other reason. Going to a food pantry..and they tell you what you can and can't have and how much etc..just doesn't cut it and the piddly amount they give you for food stamps here is the same way. This would really help people out for food during the month even if they did get the piddly amount for food stamps and/or food pantry help. Gov't drives me craaaazy with it's unrealistic views of things. There is 'the gov't world' and then there is the 'real world' of which they are totally out of touch with. They need to live in 'our means' for 6 mos min and get a taste of the real world but doubt that would change much as they know they will go back to living the lap of luxury. *sigh* 7|4|I think the food stamp program....|Quietwaters|Quietwaters39@hotmail.com|07:13:35|12/24/2012|

was meant to replace the commodity food program, so to do both is like double dipping. If you live near an Idian reservation, they offer much more than just cheese and butter ect, you get a lot of canned good, and packaged goods.

We have Illinois people everywhere over here. Bass Lake and Maxinkuckee Lake near me both have most of the real estate owned by Illinois people. They always come over here to buy up property especially around lakes and rivers so they make GOOD money with jobs in IL. Not so here in IN as overall. Hard to find jobs and if you do pay is usually the pits. My one daughter had to move BACK to IL as she couldn't make a living here at all..really was destitute. She is a mgr at McDonalds. Top pay start out here was between $7 & $8 dollars IF she was lucky and pushed the owner/ gen mgr to pay that to her and has years of experience under her as that job position. Start out in IL was between $10 & $11. No brainer. She couldn't pay rent (same here as she is paying in IL in large city), utilities etc on her pay here and she wasn't eligible for food stamps and so forth here as well. She has her son with her now so that meant trying to pay for everything including food for two and still wasn't eligible here. IN needs to upgrade the amounts allowed on stuff..phone (they said avg phone bill is $14..really?!!..WHERE is THAT at as I want it! My phone bill is around $100 each month and HAVE to have the pay one price dial anywhere or everything is long distance and no phone comp. competition either. Magic Jack and types are not a option..they are the pits here to use as phone lines pole to pole etc needs upgrading) Electric is minimal too..prices not seen as they say are avg for many many years..just the same for everything. They are waayyy behind the times here on prices allowed in other states etc. 13|6|We were looking to buy there a few years ago....|Quietwaters|Quietwaters39@hotmail.com|11:35:55|12/24/2012|

and my husband was going to commute to IL. Buying a house seems much cheaper there than here, but of course that all depends on the area.

In our area they have a mobile food pantry, and all you have to do is live in the county. I volunteer in the summer when my work sponsers it. I guess it moves around to different locations in the county, so you can go once a month. You get to go in line according to a raffle number they give you. If people volunteer they can go through line first. More areas should have something like this.

Households cannot participate in FDPIR and the Food Stamp Program in the same month. Which might just be those who participate near an Indian reservation.
