10 0|0|The IRS is garnishing hubby's wages!!|suzhappy|suzhappy@yahoo.com|23:14:08|09/27/2012|

On top of our moving expenses ( first & last months rent, utility turn-on fees, BACK utility payments, etc. etc.), our mountain of medical bills and all our other bills, the IRS decides to garnish Keith's wages. It's either that or one or both of us goes to jail :( :( I didn't know anything about this until today and I am too numb and exhausted to cry. Keith hasn't taken his meds (for leukemia or diabetes or high blood pressure or whatever else he takes ) for days he has informed me. He just doesn't have the time...for what?? To die?????? I can't take care of him and me and the kids too right now with all this moving going on. Forget Christmas this year at all. I doubt if I'll ever find my Christmas boxes ever again anyway. So sorry to vent, but I just had to let it all out if I hope to get an hour or two sleep tonight. I honestly don't know what is going to happen to us and I am scared to death. We are a stone's throw away from being homeless. The tears are beginning to flow.

Please leave me feedback if we have had a favorable trade and I will do the same for you!

The irs lawyer can stop then taken money and make arrangements and may even get irs to agree to lower the amount you owe. try going on bidonmycase.com it a free site and a lawyer will call and talk to you at no charge. You may also want to try credit couseling, call around some are free.

good luck

3|1|Have you tried an IRS "offer in compromise"?|Abbicca|Abbicca@insightbb.com|13:01:50|09/28/2012|

http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Offer-in-Compromise-1

That tells you a bit about it and has links to the booklet and a video....most "tax attorneys" ask for a chunk of change up front and you have to owe at least 10,000 or something. I don't know what kind of taxes you owe...nor how much, but have you tried talking to the IRS? As annoying/greedy as every piece of government has gotten lately (federal/state AND local)...the IRS is actually the one most willing to work with you.

Usually there is a $150 application fee (non-refundable) for the offer in compromise, but you might not have to pay that much depending on income. The OTHER problem is you have to propose SOMETHING and start paying on it as if it was accepted immediately (anything you DO pay this way does get credited toward the debt). You might, at least, get them to agree to accept LESS than what they're garnishing him for...and to stop the garnishment.

but we definitely do not have an upfront fee so that is out of the question. We got another turn-off notice in today's mail! This time it's the water they're turning off. So no electric or water...what on earth is next?? Funny I used to look forward to the mailman.

You are such a sweet and caring lady. You don't deserve any of this. Sit your hubby down and explain to him that if he doesn't take his meds and something happens things will just go from bad to worse. You need him healthy and make sure to take care of yourself too. I know stress makes it very hard to sleep (been there myself, I was a walking zombie for about 6 months a couple years ago) I wish I knew more about resources to help you. I know some of my friends have used the Salvation Army, maybe they can help at least with giving your family a decent Christmas. My prayers are with you sweetie. I tried to get help on my electric bill through OACAC, but was told that they would only help you if you were in danger of getting shut off. This might be helpful to you. Call them and see what help you can get. You might try calling Family Services about the number if you can not find it. 7|1|Sue, Some helpful information inside for you. |Ranalt|ainebailey@gmail.com|10:43:32|09/29/2012|
