I am hoping one of you nurses or RT's ..or someone familiar with this stuff here on the board can help me. As most of you know my one daughter is multiply handicapped and has a trach. The 'good' flex tube for the trach was just a nice flexible silicone type tube with a separate elbow w/ suction port on top and bottom of the flex tube fit on a green inline filter which attached at the other end of filter to her vent circuit line. Anyhoo..problem is they have stopped making the nice washable silicone flex tube. (I have called the company for confirmation on this) Like everything else they are trying to save money and going to disposable tubes with the tube and elbow all in one piece. That works great for someone who just is laying still in bed all the time but my daughter can move all over her bed..even up on her knees. If I have to keep using this it will eventually rub a hole in my daughter esphogus and/or her artery as it is sooo stiff (entire piece even with the 'accordion' flex tube..it's the material that's stiffer) and moves all over..pokes her under her chin. hits her in the chest, etc. Not a good thing and she is so little size wise it's not comfortable for her at all. I have been dilegently looking for something better to replace the old 'good' flex tube but seem to only be able to come across the new types. If anyone can help me with this and send me the info I would appreciate it. I have called my home health supplier ...and rival companies..have talked to RT's from them and at hospitals etc...running out of ideas but need help for daughter before it's too late. Thanks so much for any help on this! 1|1|*Up For Joy M and others to read pls*|Skaytes|skaytez@gmail.com|11:18:59|09/24/2012|

so far only seeing those 'disposable' ones that are not appropriate for daughter. Makes me so sad that my daughter could easily pass away due to greed..again..of companies just interested in $$. No one has been any help as far as getting me info except for RT's I have spoke to and again just the disposable ones. Hoping someone out there has a lead on a brand/company and type that my daughter can use. Potentially there is one just like the one she is using but has a suction port on top which bumps out the top a bit so her trach collar bands have something to 'grasp' and tie around to help keep it in place on her neck BUT RT says they can't order it..of course. *sigh* I was on the phone with her and had me go to the companies web site to look at it as she was as well so know about it. I will keep plugging away and hopefully God will send the necessary people/info our way so I can help daughter before it's too late. Thanks bunches Joy and God bless! 4|1|Can you call the company that made the trach that your daughter uses and ask them what they have that is comparible to what she uses now? We use Shiley trachs in the hospital. They have an website, maybe they have something.|bikermomofboys|allibaker@comcast.net|16:22:13|09/24/2012|

flex tube that attaches to the elbow which attaches to the inner cannula on her trach. My daughter has super severe scoliosis and all her organs..including her esophogas etc...are shifted over. She can't have the flex tube moving all over and pulling her trach back and forth as it will quite possibly make a hole in her esophogas or her artery and that will be her demise. :( Sooo..trying to find a flex tube that is not 'rigid' ..even the new disposable flex tubes have 'accordion' type tubes BUT they are very rigid plastic types..not the soft type that works really well for her...

Edited to add daughter is also on a vent hence the need for the flex tube to connect at other end to her vent circuit. I also have spoken directly to that flex tube manufacturer and that is how I found out 'why' I couldn't get them any longer..they quite making them and everyone is going to disposable as it's cheaper for the companies.
