Just got back form Big Y supermarket. I hardly ever go there(coupon policy is a pain, and regular prices are high), but there were some good deals this week, on some things I use often. So I pay with a 100.00 bill, and the kid looks at it, in light, fine. Then he uses the marker, fine. Then he calls the manager, and she takes it into the office to look at it, under a black light. What the heck? Mean while the cashier explains to me, they have to do that with every 100, 50, and some old 20 dollar bills. This seems absurd to me.
It is a good thing this store does NOT get a lot of business. Sheesh!! Okay I feel better. Donna

With all the fake bills going around lately it's just something people are going to have to put up with if you want to use cash. I don't let it bother me.
I did a Friday, Sat, Sun. demo a few weeks ago at Walmart and the Manager was running around showing everyone the fake $50's that someone had just passed at 2 different registers. It passed the marker test, was worn so looked like and felt like any used bill and passed some of the light tests but if you put a real $50 next to it you could spot some of the things that were fake. So someone who didn't take the time to fully examine it would have thought it was real and that's how they got past the 2 cashiers with fakes. So don't hold it against the store for protecting themselves from fakes....they are protecting you too from those that are trying to pass fakes.
Other stores I've been in have even checked 5's and 10's and have said the only bill they haven't seen as fake yet are singles but it's only a matter of time. This is one reason cash bothers me is because of all the fakes. How do I know that I'm not getting fakes back in change from some store?

2|1|maybe that is why it surprised me, I rarely use cash, and if I do, hardly ever a large bill. I have been layed off the whole month of August, and when I went visit my Dad yesterday, he gave the 100.00 to help out with groceries. hi i use to work in the supermarket. yes lots of bad money coming thru. but never let them walk off to check your bill away from you. i always had them sign it or put a mark on it, too many times stores want to get rid of their bad money and will bring back a diffrent bill and tell you it's bad , once it leaves my sight i don't care what you say we have a problem . that's not my bill.
now i don't take big bills from the bank just to much hassle to use.
