My sister found a wallet or small coin purse when she was at the Mall the other day and it had 350.00 in it. It had an ID but she kept the money and returned he Drivers license in the mail. I'm not going to judge her because I've never been in that place. I've never found more than 20.00. But I can't help feel bad for the person who lost it. My sister does need money right now but she's by no means poor. She has a nice house but she is having a hard time making payments as her job doesn't pay as much as it used to. What would you do? Would it matter what financial situation you were in or would you automatically return it no matter what. I'd like to think I would return it but honestly I just don't know because that is a lot of money and I could definitely use it. Just curious would love to know and please be honest. I'm not judging anyone. Carol 1|1|This is just my opinion.....|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|20:58:53|07/13/2012|

We have financial problems ourself, but if I found that money, I would return it, yes we could really use that money, but what about the person that lost it? It's rightfully their money and it should be returned to them. :)

I found a wallet in the parking lot at Dollar General. I took it in to give to the clerks but they said they'd prefer I take it w/me home & call they guy myself as they didn't want to be responsible for it. When looking for the ID, there were 2 $100 bills & a $20 bill among several other bills altho I didn't look in that part further so I don't know what denomination. But I'm guessing probably close to $300. I put the wallet in my pocket & was checking out when the guy whose picture was on the driver's license walked in. I asked if he was looking for something & he said yes, his billfold. I told him I had it & was planning to look him up in the phone book when I got home. He was very happy to get it back & wanted to give me $20 for finding it. I didn't accept it tho cuz my son is constantly losing his wallet, his phone or something & I'm always grateful when he gets it back intact, & I would hope someone would return my stuff to me if I lost it.
As much as I could've used the money in the wallet, my conscience would never let me as it wasn't mine to keep. Like Joy said, I like to be able to sleep at night, & I need to be able to look myself in the mirror.
If I remember right, the guy's driver's license DOB said he was 70+ some yrs. old. That was very likely his retirement, VA or disability pension - all he had to live on for the month.
Money is nice but bad karma bites.

This has just been troubling me so much. My husband keeps asking me why I keep thinking about it and I tell him because if it was me who lost it I would hope the person would return it and I just can't help but feel bad for her. The thing that kind of upsets me is she told me that she was meant to have found it because she needed the money but then I told her how about the person who lost it? I think she has the attitude that they were careless and this is a lesson learned but the more and more I think about it I just know I would return it. Thanks so much for all of your opinions. front door of our home and handed it to him, all was intact. There was a time I was coming out of the supermarket and saw a wallet on the floor in front of the doors and took it to the customer office, looked inside at driver license and saw a picture of a woman and as I was leaving the store I looked in this car that was passing and sure enough it was the woman in the picture and I hollered for her and told her that her wallet was at customer she thanked me. I never looked to see if there any money in it at all. Just looked at drivers license as it opened right up to it.

it is the same thing as going into that persons house, taking their wallet off the table, taking out 350.00 dollars but leaving the drivers liscense.

I had the bank teller give me too much money last week. I didn't have time to go back, but did it any way. You do whats right becuase it is the right thing to do.

I didn't even open it up, but drove right to the police station and dropped it off and let them deal with it. Now I could have felt like for all the quarters I have lost at this car wash, I am getting a pay back, but it just does not work like that. In the long run when you put people before yourself you come out much better off.

years ago i found next to my car after work a payroll letter that had over $400 in it. it had the womens name on it but that was it. i sat in my car for two hours hoping to see someone looking for it. there were too many strip stores in the lot to know where it could come from. i did leave a message at work if someone came in looking for something to send them to me. well they showed up but the girl at the desk didn't send them to me she said she looked rich she didn't need the money. she had gold on. i felt so bad and i was mad too. so i saved the money and put it in the salavation kettle that xmas.the lady had such a common name i couldn't even look it up in the phone book. it has always bothered me. 18|1|lost my wallet once and coupons once|LindaOH|Martinl3@roadrunner.com|13:32:30|07/14/2012|

I had took my wallet out (probably to look for a coupon) and layed it on a shelf, someone took it to the service desk but took a necklace my son had gotten me when he was in the navy, he was on the USS America when we had that trouble overseas,we hadn't gotten along very good before he went and it mean a lot to me it came with a little story about being the best mom in the world. it wasn't worth much money but he probaly paid on it for 2 years, the chain had broken and I was going to take it to get fixed, I didn't have any money in it my hubby had just got paid and I cashed his check and put it in a bank envelope. You would think I would learn but did the same with my coupons they were also turned in but all the good ones took out, don't think I could live with myself if I found a wallet or coupons and kept them 19|1|I agree with everyone else. I felt like a big dope and I actually cried. When I calmed down I prayed
that whoever found it needed it more than I needed it (IMHO that would
be tough, but hey, what do I know?)

Anyway I wanted to offer that because she may really need it and
God watches over us all like He does the sparrows. If you feel like
me, I wanna stick my tongue out and say nah nah nah (I have a
honking NJ accent) and say dad saw you!!!! ROFL.

What I'm trying to say is, don't worry, He watches over us all, even
the purse -loser, who was surely glad to get the license back. I'll
pray he or she gets some moola too ! 25|1|This happened to my husband and I... we found a wad of money....|jdlaurie|savethosepennies@aol.com|18:25:20|07/17/2012|

on the way in to a restaurant. We were just talking about how we didn't have enough money to pay the bills and then there it was on the ground in front of us. We were carrying our newborn son into the restaurant for a family party the night before a wedding. We decided that the right thing to do would be to return the money. We went into the restaurant, asked for the manager and told him where we found the money. We asked him if it was not claimed, we would like to have it because it would really help us out right now. Well... apparently the person who lost it was in the restaurant and later that night when they went to pay their bill it wasn't in his pocket! They asked the manager if anyone had returned it and we had.... So the rightful owner got the money back. He came over to thank us at the restaurant and gave us like $40 of the money as a reward and he insisted we take even though we didn't want to.... he said because no one else would have returned it.

We just really wanted to set a good example for our son and that's what we were thinking when we returned it.

If it was money I had lost... I'm sure no one would have returned it! 26|1|Would have to return it because if I didn't every bad thing that happened to me I would be sure was because I didn't return it and........|tamioutoftime|tamioutoftime@aol.com|22:05:25|07/17/2012|

Elijah was 10 years old, and he and his sister were walking through the Boscov's while I was selling hot dogs with my church group at the store's outside door. He found $18 I think it was....and he didn't even come to ask me what to do with it, he just gave it straightaway to the nearest cashier lady. Now we have been on the lower end of poor for several years now, and he could have thought of all the things he could do with that money, but it never even crossed his mind.

He got rewarded for his goodness - the store called him after a month and told him he could come get the money because no one had claimed it. Makes my heart burst that he's a good kid.
