As some may know my Mom fell May 14th and broke her hip. She was already living with me due to her dementia. She was able at the time to walk short distances with walker, but has not walked since the fall that broke her hip. She has been bedbound since then. Initally she was not eating and was sleeping about 23 hours a day. The hip hurt her and she did not want to do the exercises. Since then the pain has resolved but she is weak from being in bed so long. We have tried to stand her with help of physical therapist but she ids not able. She can sit on side of bed for about 15 minutes at a time. Her dementia has worsened to the point that she does not attempt to feed herself or even move in the bed, whatever position I put her in she stays there until I turn her again. She has developed a pressure sore on her heel des[ite turning her every two hours and "floating" her heels. I have been on intermittent leave from work but the financial strain is too mmuch and Iam going back to work full-time next week. The cost of the sitter eats up about half my pay but I guess half is better than none. Please pray for her to get stronger, I do not want her to spend the rest of her life in bed, that is not quality of life and pray for me to have the patience and strength to care for this wonderful woman the way she deserves. 1|1|praying for you both|LindaOH|Martinl3@roadrunner.com|21:19:07|07/12/2012|

you are a great daughter 3|1|Tami, get her doctor to direct admit her to the hospital.....given her current status, she SHOULD have at least a three day stay there, and then will qualify for MedA rehab care....then let them admit her to a rehab facility for physical/occupational therapy and nursing care....you need a break, and she needs more than home therapy three times a week...when you chose a rehab facility, ask how many days a week they have therapy services....most have at least 5, and many have 6 or even 7 days a week. The reason I have not pushed for rehab is that she is not willing or trying to do the rehab at home. She has begged me to not take her back to hospital and I have promised to never take her to a nursing home as long as she knows who she is and who I am. Her dementia is our biggest barrier to her doing the rehab. She keeps her eyes closed almost all the time the doctor says this is a dementia patient's way of disconnecting from their environment . She forgets she hasn't walked snd then doesn't understand why I won't take her to the bathroom, I try to remind her of that when the occupational and physical therapist are here but it just seems she does not have the strength and/or desire to do the work . The sad part is I have four living siblings which say "let me know if you need something" but the "something" I need is never at a time they can do it, they are tied up or .... whatever. My biggest problem is the depression that sets in when I realize I am "stuck " here, can't even run to the store if I need something ect. Caring for her is not hard it us just knowing that this is all there is to life at the moment. he never wanted to be in a nursing home at all even for rehab.......we (3 of us kids) tried to keep him home......while the rest of my brothers..
went on with their everyday life....offering like u said your family does......but mine didnt do anything without an arguement......
at some point i felt like a zombie...and didnt even realize my health was suffering .....i ended up thinking i was having a heart attack..which turned out
to be stress related.............the point im getting too......is you can only do so much..and with all the good intentions in the world
you cant do it alone....please consider joys advice ...100 bed days in rehab will hopefully put your mom back on her feet and give u somewhat of a break
and u both will benefit from it.... 14|2|I'm so sorry, Tami.....I understand that you want to honor her wishes....do you or she belong to a church congregation? Maybe you could reach out to the pastor and ask if there are church members who would volunteer to sit with her while you ran to the store or did errands a couple times a week for a couple hours. Or maybe you could contact the counsel on aging in your county for some referrals for volunteers for such help. reading your post asit is so like what I went throught When my Mom was still here what I ended up doingto try and save what sanity I had left ( not that I wouldn't do anything for my Mom ) I asked the home care nurse if she moonlighted or knew a nurse that did I was lucky and she di so I hired her a few times to come sit with my Mom so I could enjoy things that were passing me by lie when Joy and her family came to visit it worked out well You have to remember that while caring for your Mom you have to care for yourself you know deep down inside your Mom would not want to see you get ill from taking careof her She may get upset with you but that is just the illness talking and it will work out in the end God Bless
