the one on the right side as been aching for two days now. Figure if I get the chance to go to the dentist that it will have to be pulled. Do they just pulled it like a regular tooth? How's the pain factor? Give me some info before I make the appointment to have it checked out :) 1|1|It's definitely not a walk in the park..|noway|mizzbishop@gmail.com|18:25:41|07/07/2012|

I had all four removed at once. I bruised all over my face and had chipmunk cheeks for several days. I was on vicodin and couldn't eat for a week. It's a slow recovery and they have to totally knock you out. I would just go in with the understanding that there is pain and discomfort and you really have to take it easy for awhile, as well as do everything the dentist tells you so that you don't get dry sockets. 2|1|Just had two pulled a couple of months ago. It was not to bad pain wise, and they gave percoset, to help the pain I did have. I opted to take valium the night before, and the morning of orally, and everything went smoothly. What they told me was, most of the time it is a simple extraction. If it is complicated, they have to cut. Both of mine came out easily. It all took 20 minutes total. I could not get an estimate though, as they do not know for sure, what they will have to do , until you are in the chair. Hope I helped a little. Donna|dlpavitt|dlpavitt@att.net|18:25:51|07/07/2012|

before it gets worse. Just got dental insurance so I hope it doesn't end up costing an arm and a leg :( 4|1|My boys both just had all four pulled yesterday....they did pretty well with it, they were eating solid food this morning, although they had to chew more slowly and carefully....the bleeding stopped after a few hours, which is typical. Ibuprofen and cold packs to their jaws seem to eleviate the pain and swelling.....heck, Cody went to a Warped Tour concert in Chicago today already, said he felt fine. |saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|19:00:40|07/07/2012|

Impacted wisdom teeth are teeth whose roots are impacted into your jaw bone. This is not a condition you have control over or can stop. Some people just have them and they do require more work for extraction and these are the teeth that are usually very painful before extraction and take longer to remove.

Normal wisdom teeth are no different than another tooth. I've had all four of mine removed - the last one was about 2 years ago and it was so fast I almost thought the novacaine was a waste (ha ha ha, not really!!!).

Dry socket only affects 2-5% of people... I've pasted info from Mayo Clinic below - hope that helps:

The socket is the hole in the bone where the tooth has been removed. After a tooth is pulled, a blood clot forms in the socket to protect the bone and nerves underneath. Sometimes that clot can become dislodged or dissolve a couple of days after the extraction. That leaves the bone and nerve exposed to air, food, fluid, and anything else that enters the mouth. This can lead to infection and severe pain that can last for five or six days.

Who Is Likely to Get Dry Socket?
Some people may be more likely to get dry socket after having a tooth pulled. That includes people who:

smoke
have poor oral hygiene
have wisdom teeth pulled
have greater than usual trauma during the tooth extraction surgery
use birth control pills
have a history of dry socket after having teeth pulled
Rinsing and spitting a lot or drinking through a straw after having a tooth extracted also can increase your risk of getting dry socket.

That can happen after extraction of teeth if something gets in the open wound (piece of food, etc) and the wound starts to close/heal with that inside.....|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|11:30:01|07/09/2012|

The four teeth being removed at once was one thing but all four were impacted. The dentist scared me half to death with that dry socket talk, so I never had that problem. I was only 15 when I had mine done and it was still at least a week's worth of recovery and I had to go to school with the swelling and bruises..talk about embarrassing for a teen girl~ and also, mine was done right before Thanksgiving so all I could have from Tgiving dinner were mashed potatoes and jellied cranberry sauce, LOL! :) 12|2|I had 2 removed and had dry socket too.|kdrink|kdrink34@yahoo.com|00:03:28|07/10/2012|

I went to an oral surgeon as mine were not growing straight up but rather in sideways into my other teeth. The sad thing was this was when I was in college and had no dental insurance. I could not find a dentist to take payments. They wanted a little over 1,000.00 and my parents didn't have any money. But when I moved and could no longer take the pain I finally saw a dentist who referred me to an oral surgeon. They were so kind to take payments and didn't make me feel bad either. So, I had my wisdom teeth removed, it wasn't painful because I was knocked out cold! LOL and given percoset for a few days. I did everything they told me and still ended up with dry sockets, but even when they shoved the medicated gauze in my mouth it didn't hurt, uncomfortable yes, but the pain of having my wisdom teeth press against my other teeth was a lot worse.
