Well, keep this info in case you lose your power:

get some yard solar lights!!!!! They charge up with the sunlight and usually last well for a few hours at night - not at all dangerous as candles and kerosene lamps are. I imagine that the more expensive ones have an off and on switch - not too sure about the cheaper ones that cost $1 or $2 . I thought this was a great idea! Going to buy some soon - still remember vividly the 11 days we were without power in '07 due to an ice storm. Seems like we had some sunny days then so would have been able to charge up the light.

I have bathrooms with no window and it is pitch dark in there when the elect goes down, this would work great.

I live between two nuke plants, power goes down people pitch a fit, so we usually are not down for very long at all when it happens.

Went to WalMart and bought a round crackle glass globe solar light - could not stand to have it in the house - looked like one of those mirror balls in a dance hall on my ceiling. It cost $3 and I could not see any off and on switches on any that WalMart had. I now have the light next to my front porch - but it will be handy if we need it. I think that I will go and buy a few more cheap ones and just store them.

when the power goes off I always fill something up with water, lots of time when electric goes off the pumps go off too,if the water presure starts to get low fill up your washer or tub you can use this to wash off or flush the tolet, also I have a small freezer and took the meat out and moved it to daughter who has a working freezer because I knew it wasn't going to keep I used the freezer like a cooler, I put the stuff from my frig in it and bought a big bag of ice it lasted several days and kept everything nice and cold just remember when the electric comes back to move it back linda 9|2|Good tip...my mom just gave me another one regarding the freezer.....|Quietwaters|Quietwaters39@hotmail.com|12:03:02|07/07/2012|

Cover it with a blanket to help hold in the cold.

10|3|Nuy LED lanterns and flashlights|fbutte|fyb33@yahoo.com|19:26:00|07/10/2012|

Batteries goes a lot longer on them. they are a bit higher in price $10 for my lantern, but you save on batteries and light bulbs. How much do you save? A friend of mine just boght a bunch for his employees, had their names engraved for emergency ID. He tested them. A regular flashlight running on 2D cells will run for about 4 consecutive hours. An LED will run for 30 days. I have several in my house and use them each time I have a power outage. I have not changed the batteries for 5 years--still runs. Been through many power outages. I keep one on low all night during these outages otherwise it's too dark.

Cheaper and safer than candles.
