I'm trying so hard to get my son help... but when you have to schedule an appointment 2-3 months out only to show up and them order another test which takes a month to get back, then schedule another appointment 3 months out.. how the heck do you ever get anything done!
My son had a sleep study done with a test for nocturnal seizures... but even though the results are ready in a few days, the office says they will call in 4-6 weeks to schedule an appointment! Why not right now! I know they have the results!
Then I ask the Psychiatrist to at least give me a referral to the Occupational Therapist so I can get something going for Steven, he has sensory issues, social issues, etc.... and he sits on it for over a month and NOTHING! I then have to go to EVERY doctor my son has and ask that one of them do it because he needs help now! He's getting worse not better! One of the doctors suggest I send him to a psychiatric ward! Really! Why don't they just help me get him help!
Then he wants us to come in for more appointments, where nothing gets done... and I run out of medication in between appointments because he can't keep track of when we were in last!
Then I have tests going with the neurologist and that next appointment isn't until September for the results of the chromosome testing, fragile x and lead testing!
Autism testing couldn't fit him in until the end of July! In the next town over, no one does it in the big town I live in!
It's like a whole summer is lost! What happen to the days of going to the doctor and getting stuff done! UGH.
It took the Occupational Therapist calling one of the doctors several times to get someone to say they would write a referral for OT. After many many phone calls from me! She has also called all of the doctors.
And mind you, I'm not walking into anyone's office empty handed. They have copies of blood tests, psychological screenings, diagnosis's, etc! They know there is issues, everyone knows there is issues... but not one will do anything! This is ridiculous! I could just scream!
I'm getting called daily from Summer camp to pick up my son and have to leave work, because he's too high functioning for theraputic behavior classes and has issues in regular classes! What happens to these kids! I swear they are forgotten!
Then I have people that ask my why I haven't brought him to therapy myself! Because insurance won't pay for it if the doctors aren't involved and they don't pay me enough for me to afford it all on my own! That's why I pay for insurance! UGH!!!!!!!! I hate the system! I take my son to a pyschiatrist and a mental health therapist monthly (this one I pay out of my own pocket), these days twice a month!
I'm frustrated and can't help but cry.... god forbid I didn't have insurance... they wouldn't even look at Steven!

Dealing with doctors can be a real pain in the butt. You have to be
ref. for everything. It always takes months to get into. And for
us with medicaid (state insurance) most doctors wont ever take it.
I hope you can find a doctor that will help your son sooner.
