My husband is going for a job interview in the next couple of days and insurance is a big thing for us and I am wondering if we needed to go on cobra if there is a layover between insurances how does it work? Will they pay the Dr's for continued care for things I am being reated for now? Do they cover meds? Thanks for any info T 1|1|Cobra|flyerfan|flyerfan3@comcast.net|12:51:22|06/25/2012|

We were on Cobra several times between DH's jobs. Cobra insurance is the same insurance that you now have. The difference is instead of the ex employer paying the monthly premium, you will now pay all of it. Usually a company will pay some of the cost of an employees insurance but with Cobra you pay the whole amount. The company may have made other arrangements with your DH & then they MAY pay some of the Cobra cost. When DH was laid off they paid his Cobra for awhile as part of his severance package which was nice. After this we paid the total until Cobra ran out. But whatever your insurance pays now on your policy, it will remain the same on Cobra. You will not have any coverage change on drugs, copays etc. And there is no pre existing conditions either just a continuation of the policy. 2|1|Everyone has told me that too, I am on Cobra right now and|Mackiesmudder|Mackiesmudder@aol.com|13:53:14|06/25/2012|

I can no longer go to the chiropracter and my deductibles are now HUGE. My boss paid my insurance premiums while I was out of work and when I went back to work, the insrance company flipped out and said I should have been on Cobra and so I am on it for 3 months. A painful 3 months I must say. My condition has regressed thanks to no care, fortunately I only have until July 1. I would ask some questions Miss Tina. Love you
Cathie 3|2|Thanks ladies This would be just for the 3 month waiting period for insurance with the new job|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|14:34:46|06/25/2012|

it would have been $1000 a month ...so we went without insurance for a year...a really long year........til my honey found a job with benefits.... fortunately the worst we had to deal with was my daughter's broken arm and Advair inhalers for my son every month. 5|4|Because of health issues for all 3 of us we can't go without and the payments|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|22:22:54|06/25/2012|

As others have mentioned, it is the same insurance as what you have now. However, you will have to
pay the full premium on it.

One thing to consider is if you chose not to have the COBRA coverage and go without insurance
for any period of time you will have a gap in your health coverage. A new employer can
exclude for up to 1 year any pre-existing conditions that you or your family have. Meaning
that the things you want to have covered, will NOT be covered for a year.

Right now alot is up in the air until the Supreme Court makes it's ruling on ObamaCare on Thursday,
so if you have access to the money to pay the COBRA premium, you may want to do that.

I have to go backand read it better ( had a shot in the yeye yesterday so it was hard to read it) it was about HIPAA but I think at this point we will go with COBRA I read too that COBRA can only charge you 102 % of the amount of teh insurance ( so our part and the company's part) The 2% is for the cost of extra paperwork becaue of it lol How nice of them lol I know it is what we need to do in the long run but this insurance thing is just so scary thanks for all the info so far 7|1|We couldn't afford COBRA, and I haven't had health insurance in 4 yrs :( I have alot of health problems but I usually try to just deal with them, but last month I had those expensive tests on my heart an the ER visit, so now I'm saddled with huge medical bills :(|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|22:39:36|06/25/2012|

I worked in human resources for 36 years and we always told our employees to take COBRA coverage if at all possible due to the pre-existing conditions exclusions. 10|3|When Cobra is exhausted|flyerfan|flyerfan3@comcast.net|14:38:31|06/26/2012|

We paid and used all of our Cobra and DH retired when he was laid off. The timing was good because he had just turned 62 and could retire. But, we had to find our own insurance after Cobra. DH had colon cancer right after the retirement plus is diabetic so he could only get a policy that included these pre existing conditions. He has paid over $700. per month to have coverage. I started with the same policy but thought I would just change to a policy that didn't cover pre existing conditions. Found out that if I went for a blood test to check cholesterol or to the doc for a blood pressure check, I had to pay the bill in full as these were all pre existing according to the insurance. And I paid over $400. a month for coverage of nothing! If doc ordered a list of bloodwork it would kick out the entire bill if cholesterol was 1 of them. Basically, it is only for a new emergency problem. As of 7/1 I am eligible for Medicare and DH is eligible on 8/1. I will be so happy to loose this $1100.+ insurance payment every month! We sure do NOT get enough social security to handle those kind of numbers. I understand why many can not afford insurance!
