my brothers and I ..,met at my parents home yesterday for the first time since daddy died......to discuss what we were gonna do with
the old antique furniture......I told everyone......IF there is anything you bought as gifts......and you want it...take it with you.......
Since im guardian.....I then said......Is there anything anyone wants out of here.........
No one but my youngest brother spoke....said he wanted the tool box....(him..and I had purchased it for dad) so i said we bought it..and i dont want it
so take it.....then my brother said ..if no one cares..his wife wanted a sofa table and end tables......(she always helped daddy out) so i said...if no one cares.....take it......
THEN........my sister in law....and brother..that wouldnt help out with dad.....NEVER visited.....came once a yr.....SOMETIMES for christmas and thanksgiving,
spoke u and said.......I want to buy....(.LOL>>>LOL yea right..) this..that..and something else.....all i can say.....is some people have
NO BRAINS........if i had never came around......refused to go see a 90 yr old in the nursing home....(cause he pi--ed my brother off) I would not have dared to
ask for anything!!!
Im sooooooo glad i dont have money....expensive stuff......for my kids to argue over......
I would not want to wish this upon anyone......seeing your parents belongs..divided,ect......some to people ..who wouldnt have p--ssed on him if he were on fire.....just makes me sick.....
Its sad..that they are interested in stuff worth $$ and some of us,,are looking for such tiny things that arent worth a thing....but a MEMORY......my daughter

I forgot to add that in the case of my Dad's things, my one sister got everything she wanted first as she had access to where he lived and took all boxes out of his apt., (my mom died earlier so my Dad had everything) needless to say I will have nothing to do with her, she stole lots of money, his possessions and I can't begin to tell you things she pulled.
She no longer exists to me or my brother and other sisters. $ meant more to her than family. Greed is an awful thing.
And it's too bad because we were so close. But life goes on.

My husband's mother was very ill before she died and my husband's brother and his wife (a German lady) took care of her in their home for about a year before Grandma died. Grandma had a little house in town that the kids had rented out to one of the grandchildren. After Grandma died, all of the kids had a family meeting (the inlaw's were not included - including my German sister-in-law). They decided to give that brother and his wife Grandmas's house in town in return for all of their care of Grandma during her last year. Then, they sold the house and received $10,000 for the house. Well deserved money as far as the rest of us were concerned. Then, this brother himself, got lung cancer and finally died a few years ago. His wife - the German - quit speaking to the rest of us. My DH and I went to see her one day and all she could talk about was how much each sibling had got when Grandma died and we said that there wasn't much left after she died and each kid had gotten about $100 - she said WELL, WE DID NOT EVEN GET THE $100. My DH said, WELL, YOU GOT THE HOUSE AND SOLD IT FOR $10,000. She was shocked, seems that her DH failed to tell his wife that we gave them the house!!!!! She has been mad at all the rest of us for all of these years.

sell everything before the person dies, and use the money to take care of them, and let there be no stuff left. Just not worth the hard feelings or bitterness that fighting over stuff creates.
If you can let it go, it is the best thing for you in the long run. You did the right thing by taking care of your dad. It doesn't matter what those around you are doing or their motive, if you know in your heart you did and are doing the right thing.
Hope this all works out quickly for your sake, so you can just start healing.

it is the sisters and the daughters who are the care takers.
I also was the only daughter, with no help, and also had to spend a lot of time in court to make sure he was taken care of, because greed comes before the person is even dead, but I would not trade those hard ten years for anything. I came from a very messy background with a lot of pain, and there was such healing from taking care of my dads needs.
Those who are not there are the ones who miss out, and no amount of stuff can equal the blessing it is to care of someone when they are dying.

of the same blood you are. You offered and they took. If you just let it go by as water over the dam, you will fell better. Did you have plans to sell the things that nobody wanted? Was the money to be split or would that pay some of your father's bills? If you NEEDED those things to help pay bills, they you could have held them back...but you didn't. Just don't let this experience make you sick.
