The nice, elderly Norwegian lady who was going to teach me how to crochet lace passed away yesterday of an aneurysm. Her name was Lillian & she would've turned 89 years young next month, still living in her own home w/out assistance. She was the president of the church circle I belong to, secretary of our Ladies Aid & still a very active member in our town's Syttende Mai (17th of May) celebration which is coming up this wkend. During Syttende Mai, she participated in the Old Time Music Show, playing the accordian & keyboard, which our circle also provides the lunch for, & would demonstrate how to make lefse while my mom & I demonstrated how to make krumkake, both Norwegian delicacies, so I'd grown close to her over the years. She was a retired teacher & was gifted w/a wealth of knowledge, talent & a very keen memory. I cherished every moment I spent in her company, just listening to all the wonderful stories she selflessly shared of her life, of life in general, & of history near & far. And over the years, she spent countless hours translating our church's history books into English from Norwegian.
Her husband passed away 4 yrs. ago. They had no children but do have a couple nephews & a niece.
I don't think she ever said a bad word about anyone, ever. She was a pretty lady inside & out & when she smiled, it was reflected in her face & eyes so you knew she was a really good person from w/in. I'm SO very blessed to have had her in my life, so many of us are, but I'm SO, SO sad to have lost such a beautiful friend. Syttende Mai will definitely not be the same w/out her. :(

o She sounds like a great person who loved to live life and shared her gifts and talents. I enjoy being around older people also and hearing their stories, we can learn a lot from them if we listen. I am sorry for your loss.
