A while ago we had a gardening thread going and I enjoyed every comment. What are you growing? What's doing well for you?
I have a lot of starts on my front porch (seedlings) and some were ready to go in the ground. So far my backyard has lettuce (tiny), cucumbers, broccoli and sunflowers. One thing I just started from seed was artichokes. I am SO excited to have artichokes! 1|1|V, I have stuff in pots also, waiting to go in the ground.|HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|20:34:34|05/02/2012|

o I started some pots with seeds 2 weeks ago, sunflowers, green peppers, hot peppers and a batch of mixed flowers. Last week it was so cold here and got down in the low 30's and this week it has been raining(started Saturday night) like crazy and won't let up till Monday...Some of my stuff is not growing, could be bad seeds or rotten I don't know but will give them 1 more week before I buy more seeds andf try again. I still have to order my seedlings, I have not had time to do that yet,but gotta do it soon!

I have planted tomatoes, green peppers, eggplants and cucumbers. Haven't planted any flowers yet, waiting to buy mulch first. Have anyone used the rubber mulch? My sister has had it fr 9 years, it is still black as the ace of spades, doesn't blow away in high winds, nor move with heavy rains. I am seriously thinking about getting the rubber mulch. If any of you have it, let me know your thoughts. Thanks........ 4|2|IN THE GARDEN I HAVE TOMATOS 3 ON THERE ALREADY, PEPPERS AND ZUCCHINI........SMALL PLANTS STILL IN POTS READY TO GO SOON|JOYHAPPYONE|DAIDOLA5@AOL.COM|21:51:51|05/02/2012|

but with this cold rain we have been having hard to get much else to take off, April was much cooler here than March. Did get my plants in yesterday between drops, but will have to still watch for frost. Have peas coming up and a few beans, but thinking I will have to replant some of those.

I never have much luck with planting seedlings, I did grow some peppers that did ok. I buy my plants at a local Ben Franklin, they are only 1.00 for a pack of four, but you can always find some that have 6 or 7 plants in them.

Our dirt is kind of clay like, so I comparing the ones I did in pots versus right in the ground, I think the potted ones seem to have a better chance for me. I'm really lucky in that we had a semi established garden when we moved in, otherwise I would be in way over my head.

Glad your veggies are doing good! 11|3|Today I finished planting all my seeds in Jiffy-Pots, and bf built me a nice wooden box with a wire lid to put all my pots in, till they grow and |HONEY11|HONEY1@AMERITECH.NET|22:55:01|05/22/2012|

The garden is 12 feet long by 7 wide. I will take pic's soon. **Today I ordered some peppermint plants on line and will add those aound the poutside of the garden when they come in.

and plant it. I will probably get a green pepper plant also as that did well in a container. I got several from just one plant. I have a small patio off the apartment. We just moved to a one floor apartment so we can put things into the ground also. We have a small area. I am in a wheelchair so I do the container things. I have a few flowers in containers and they are doing well. I have a purple petunia, and purple calibrachoa which is hardy and so beautiful. I also have a yellow American daisy and a white daisy. Gifts from my daughter for Mother's Day. 16|1|we've been eating all kinds of greens, zucchini, and squash from ours this week|carmenanderson|cloudcars@verizon.net|18:42:33|05/23/2012|

The cucumbers I've grown from seeds, they are getting huge in only a couple of weeks! Starting to vine upwards, so I put a trellis behind them. Can't wait to see what happens with them!

The 2 pepper plants were free with a project from Home Depot that the kids did.... they decided to plant them in my pots with my plants.

The green bean plant was from my 2nd graders school science project. It's getting pretty big.. nothing on them all yet... but maybe soon. I hope to start some more things this weekend when I have time to weed the grass out of the pots! Grass is something that I grow really well in pots... everything else... not so much! LOL

with the heat and lack of rain some of my garden is struggling. Getting lots of tomatoes, cukes, squash, and eggplants now. My green beans did very bad, but replanted and if I can get them to come up should have a fall picking. Replanting spinach, lettuce and radishes also for a fall picking. Making lots of varieties of jam, have done zucchini relish, and will be starting on salsa next week.

o Bf, designed a garden hose around the top of the fencing of the garden, so I just turn it on and and we have sprayers attached to the hose so it sprays everything really well. I only have to leave it on a half hour a day in the evening. If it is really hot like in the 90's, I then will water it at 4-5 a.m. in the morning and then water it again at night. We picked our first bath of bush green beans today, and I am drying seeds right now from some of them, so we can use them next year to plant. We planted Spinich, green peppers and sorento peppers but they never came up. We are happy with what we got though!Yesterday, I made fried green tomato's for dinner last night from the roma tomato's in our gartden, they were delish!

Lots of tomatoes (slow to ripen, but so many are out there!) Cukes, yellow squash, onions, celery (not quite ready yet but doing well), so many flowers, broccoli (not ready), red cabbage. peppers, eggplant, strawberries. Seems like theres a few things that I am forgetting.

My carrots didn't grow (next year I will know where not to plant them) and next year I want to plant zucchini and spinach for sure. My other lettuces were all pretty good but have come and gone now.

Have so much fun with the garden! 25|2|out of my flower bed i have been getting tommytoes yumm and i have a variety of gourds growing along with the usual weeds i have corn stalks growing where i had bird seed |lydzkydz|lydzmcss@yahoo.com|22:19:14|08/08/2012|

well so I put it in a bigger container, as the root system needed to spread. I cut it back and it came back beautifully. I had on oriental lily that was magnificent for about 4 weeks. Some plants just don't last that long. I did have someone put Black Eyed Susans in the ground and they are doing very well. As the older flowers wilt, many new ones come up. I bought a Calibrachoa and it has a shallow root system so is still doing well in the pot I bought it in. I keep trimming off the dead flowers and it keeps re-blooming. My daisies didn't do well. They really need to be in the ground or maybe a larger pot.
