I'm sorry but I really need to rant & vent.
I just found out this morning that my great niece's grandpa & a very close friend of my sister's & her deceased dh passed away yesterday. And it could've been prevented.
His name was Rob & he was only 48 years old! He had a bad ear infection & altho he'd been to the dr. twice, the dr. wouldn't give him an antibiotic, saying it would work itself out. On Sat. Rob collapsed & was rushed to the hospital. That ear infection did NOT work itself out & instead, had gotten worse & spread to his brain which in turn led to meningitis. Machines were keeping him alive, until yesterday when he passed away. :(
This is negligence on the part of that dr. & there is NO excuse for it.
I cannot imagine the heartbreak & devastation his wife, family & my great niece are going thru cuz it is just SO senseless when it could've EASILY been prevented w/a simple antibiotic!
How stupid & careless is this? All because some of these dumb, senseless drs. are on a kick now about not wanting to give antibiotics!
I am just SO angry!!

This is a senseless tragedy. Are these doctors incompetent or rushing too much to make more money?
This doctor should be reported to the American Medical Association, as well as, being sued. 3|2|Doctors are being pressed to not prescribe antibiotics so freely due to the mutations occurring in the bio-world, creating what are referred to as "Super Bugs" (ie, MRSA, VRE, CRKP, etc).....not to excuse the lack of care, the doctor could have referred him to an ENT or followed up in a few days to see how things were progressing, so yes, he was negligent. I just heard that they are now going to treat appendicitus (sp?)with antiobiotics instead of surgery!!!!!

the doctors wait, expecting the infection to go away on its own. I can't remember what the statistics are, but they do support not to prescribe anti-biotics. I know this becuase I had an ear infection, was told this by the doctor, did some research and yes, it is true, but decided that my ear hurt too darn much that I didn't want to wait- so I found a doctor to prescribe an anti-biotic.

I had an awful ear infection over the winter and didn't get antibiotics on my first visit. I was told to take lots of vitamin C, drinks lots of fluid and take tylenol for the pain. The second time I went in about a week later I had a double ear infection, strep throat, a horrible sinus infection plus either bronchitis or walking pneumonia. They skipped the chest x-ray because the doctor said the very strong antibiotics they were prescribing would take care of it. I was also put on steriods. I was so sick and weak I almost fell down the stairs and couldn't even drive. My husband had to practically carry me out to the car. I was super dizzy and my heart was beating so fast it was really scaring me. I don't know if I would have had all those other problems if I would have been given antibiotics on my first visit or not. I know that was about as sick as I've ever been and never ever want to go through that again.
I'm truly so sorry about your loss. My brother in law just passed away last week at 46 years old :( He was a very healthy man, served in the Marines and left behind a beautiful 9 year old daughter. He went to the doctor over the winter for a sore throat and antibiotics didn't do anything. He was sent to a specialist and it turns out he had a very aggresive form of cancer that started in his lymph nodes and spread rapidly. Within 3 months he was gone :( His funeral was last Thursday and it still doesn't seem real. I'll be praying for your family, especially the children.

Yes I agree I think he was negligence too I think he should have referred to ENT too
