Multiple Chemical Sensitivites - My house was making me deathly sick!!!!!! Turns out I'm highly sensitive to fragrances especially dryer sheets, candles, air fresheners, perfumes, highly fragranced dish soap and dishwasher detergent. We had to take garbage bags and clean out everything in the house with a fragrance. And go buy unscented toilet paper, tissues, wipes, bar soap, dish soap, everything I could find. What a pain but well worth it! I NEVER want to get that sick again!!!!!! Do you know anybody with this same affliction??? I also have Sjogrens Syndrome so I have a compromised immune system.

Please leave me feedback if we have had a favorable trade and I will do the same for you!

I switched to seventh generation unscented dish liquid, the other dish liquids just make my hands burn on fire. My husband uses the scented ones when he does dishes but I can only use the unscented. And forget about fragrance sprays, heated oil scent warmers, all that jazz gives me a migraine. I have tons of it here too, was going to add some to the auction but you wouldn't be interested in that for sure. Also, herbal essences..no matter what scent, I get huge hives on my neck when I use it, haven't bought it in ages. I like the unscented laundry detergents, especially for towels, underwear, etc.

You must have been just overloaded with tons of different chemicals! I hope you are feeling better and remember back in the day, our Moms just opened a window to freshen the house, that still works. :) 2|2|We live in a world filled of chemical toxic soup.....|Sharon|corvettelady@lavabit.com|23:37:03|03/08/2012|

as my hubby would say and he's absolutely right! There's so much of it, our bodies will have a reaction as many of us are very sensitive. Our bodies can only take so much. Thankfully we can buy products that are unscented, organic, perfume-free, etc., to make our lives a bit easier. I remember having a bad reaction to something years ago buying Glade Plug-Ins which I didn't realize was the cause thinking it was something else in the room. Plus it gave me headaches. Not good breathing this stuff either! Sharon:) 3|3|I have many sensitivities, too|hudge4|hudge95@yahoo.com|01:52:36|03/09/2012|

I was tested a few years back and I'm allergic to many things-latex, nickle, formaldehyde, and a bunch of stuff I can't pronounce.

I get symptoms ranging from headaches, nausea, sinus pain, hives, and in some cases, raised rash-like 'splotches' if the product has been applied to the skin (like certain eyeshadows). Latex is found in elastic (think bra, hose) and formaldehyde is on new carpet and furniture. Nickle is in eye makeup and jewelry.

I am also allergic to food preservtives like sulfates. I stay away from other preservetives like BHT or BHA etc, because I'm afraid of what they will do. I know for sure sulfates close my throat but the others I don't know for sure. Cottonseed Oil is used in many products and that's a big no-no for me, too.

I have ALL the same sensitivities that you mentioned. I can get an instant migraine for certain odors. And even from newspaper ink!
Over the years I have found that I can tolerate FRUITY, cinnamon etc odors, but nothing perfum-y. So, I always choose Unscented, Free, or "food" smells like lemon, berry.

It's been especially hard with liquid hand soap, deodorant, body wash etc: I often take the lid off in the store to smell them, and every once in a while, even after I've done that, at home I find I can't use them. Lately I have found a wonderful RASPBERRY scent in things:)

The worse part of this syndrome though, is that I am hyper-sensitive to many prescription drugs. So it leaves me very linmited in what I can tolerate.

candles, scented sprays etc. I have a neighbor who has been staining furniture and causing me to be very ill. We are moving. The landlord won't do anything about it, neither will the public health dept. or EPA. We also have wood stoves near us and they are also very toxic.
We are living in a very toxic world. 6|1|Well it's kinda nice to know I'm not the only one, but I totally agree...|suzhappy|suzhappy@yahoo.com|16:48:02|03/09/2012|

about living in a toxic world. Everything is synthetic, plastic, full of dyes and perfumes and fragrances. No wonder cancer is on the rise let alone who knows what other diseases we're breathing/ingesting/wearing/bathing with. I worry about our children and grandchildren. Thank you for all your input.

When you mentioned being hypersensitive to perscription drugs it hit a nerve...I am so afraid of having a reaction to medicines or anesthetic. So far, the Docs haven't told me to stay clear of them. I am afraid of needing dental work done, getting shots or surgery. What do they do for that? Are there things Docs can use on people who are sensitive? What do you do?

that I have on my car visor, on my refrigerator, on the medic alert bracelet that I wear etc etc.

The doctors usually have other medication options, but they may not be as effective as what they would normally prescribe for any particular problem. AVOIDANCE is pretty much all I can hope to do. For instance, I know that I cannot tolerate ANY NSAIDS (ant-inflammatory drugs). This one in particular is a real bummer! I can't even take Advil.

Not to alarm you or anything, but my own family doctor "forgot" about one of my drug allergies/sensitivities, even though it was boldly written and taped right above my bed, while I was in hospital. She ordered an injection. Shortly afterwards, she came back to my room (thank God) and noticed that I was going into "shock". She immediately had them give me something to counteract that. I could have died. IMAGINE if she hadn't returned! She sat on my bed and literally cried, apologizing profusely.

I am now hyper-vigilant when the Drs want to give me anything. Mistakes do happen: we just have to increase our chances of that NOT happening to us by maintaining records/lists etc to give to medical personel when necessary.

Anyways, I try not to be too paranoid about it. I have always said that I am going to die WHILE SHOPPING anyway! LOL

I have the same condition with fragrances.Goes back to 1990 for me. Had firbosis on lung
from it,been in and out of the hospital more times then I can mention. My husband was my
life saver many times. He would have to walk into a place first just to make sure there were no
fragrances around.I'm also allergic to a lot of medications. It is a hard thing to live with.
Some people think your crazy but it is a true condition. My husband came up with a alert card for
me. Which explains all my medications I take and my allergy's,so when I go to the doctors office
I just have them make a copy of it and where is says list you RX and allergys I put see attached form.
Sure saves a lot of time when you go to doctors or any other place that ask for your medical history.
And great to have on you in case of an accident.
When the doctors seen this card they asked who did it. I told them my husband did and they said he should
patten it .It's the best thing they ever saw. I told him that he should put it on the computer I think
if people seen it they would buy it. I've never seen a better emergency card then he makes. If anyone who
might want to see this LMK you will be totally surprise to see how well it came out.
The price is 2.00 for the first card and 1.00 for each additional card.
If you need to update at any time from what it was then it is 1.00 to updated. Shipping is extra.
I have mine and my husbands in my wallet and he also has both in his.

I read somewhere a long time ago that use of scented stuff on the young makes them more allergy proned. That starts with Pampers, which is scented.

Almost everything out there is purposely scented. Think of the conflict: soap, deoderant, laudry detergent, softeners, shampoos, etc. each with its own scent. 11|5|It is our generation that the scents started in----|momoftwo|1tahoe@core.com|16:12:16|03/10/2012|

I can still recall when things were not scented.

I think it all started in the 90's. I can recall buying laundry soap in the 80's that was powder and then later came liquid none were scented. Even then the liquid was only original and not scented for each brand like Tide, Wisk and all the others. Then after they had mostly all liquid laundry soap, along started to come all the scents in the liquid laundry soaps. Now, their is a complete long isle in the grocery store for just the laundry soaps with all the different scents.

Now they have scents into everything, bleach, diapers, bar of soap, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, deoderant, hair spray, makeup, hand cream, candles and the list goes on and on.

Try to notice this. When you buy clothes at Walmart, Kmart and other stores the fabric they made them with seems to be already washed with a scented soap and I can't wash that out when I get it home. It has to air dry for weeks to remove the scent. Food in stores close to that clothing will have the taste of the scent if not properly wrapped.

It's getting harder and harder to find unscented shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and on and on.

This is a FACT: if those items were made on another continent (no names mentioned), they were most likely sprayed with INSECTICIDE during manufacturing or packaging, to avoid being damaged or destroyed by bugs in the containers on the ships. I heard this many, many years ago. I urge you to wash everything from overseas BEFORE wearing/using it. HTH 13|1|I can't take strong scents either and have allergies all my life due to soaps and things, when someone is wearing really strong perfume, I can't stand it, makes me wanna puke, and I find as I get older, I'm more and more sensitive to scents, I use to be able to wear certain body sprays etc, but now they make me sick :(|RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|18:31:27|03/10/2012|

I had forgotten how just the smell of gas can trigger a migraine. And the smell of BarBQ's cooking doesn't help me either. Neither does fresh paint or pavement! And, like you said, the list goes on and on. It is good to know that I am not alone. One time I had to be seen by a different doctor, because mine was away, and the first thing she said when she looked at my file, I will never forget, "boy, have you ever got a lot of weird things wrong with you!" 17|3|LOL as if ! I don't know what's in the other types of bacon but whatever's it is the grease when frying it up shortens my breath terribly. It's the only food type thing that bothers me altho I can no longer tolerate most types of aftershave/cologne or perfumes either (Old Spice & Musk are ok but anything else makes me sick).
The Dollar General puts out these scented bamboo type sticks at Christmas time & I have to stay away from them. It's kind of a cinnamon smell so not hard on the sniffer but it's strong & evidently doesn't agree w/me.
Most fuels aren't bothersome but diesel is a definite no-no.
W/so many people becoming more & more sensitive to foods, smells, & allergies, & more & more people battling cancer, I've been wondering if this is our body's way of telling us we have chemical overload or something.....

Smile... it makes people wonder what you're up to!
