A few days ago I went to the salvation army for the very first time ever. I wasnt impressed. I was and am
still looking for a dresser.I didnt find one but WOW the prices are way high!!! I couldnt believe it. Like for example
they had this black desk chair that they sell at wal mart for like $50 well the SA was asking $45 change!!! Its used. Im still going to check some other consignment shops out and hope I have better luck. Any tips? 1|1|please cye :)|kawanti|kawanti@insightbb.com|08:13:55|03/08/2012|

I got it at the local st vincent de paul thrift store, really nice and sturdy and I've been looking for one forever so I was thrilled to find it.

4|1|I find that sometimes at my local resale shop too....the prices are almost retail....but I do find some good stuff there too...yarn (like new!) for 25c or 50c a skein....sometimes I get the boys jeans or tshirts from Aero, Hollister, AE, etc for a dollar or two....just gotta keep checking :) Find out what days they take in donations, wait a day or two then go in...that is when the 'new' stuff should be out to buy. :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|13:14:14|03/08/2012|

I decided to quit donating to them since they are so overpriced on items. People that don't have a lot of money can't afford their prices. There is a store here called Savers that has .99 Monday's. Each week they pick a certain color tag and that color is .99. No matter what it is. Only problem is there are certain people who get there as soon as the store opens and they go rack by rack and take all .99 items and load up their cart. Then, they stand at the back of the store and go through all of it to see if they want it. 8|2|we have a Savers here but Ive never been. Ill have to check it out.|Mumzie|luckiestbamboo2@aol.com|07:48:19|03/09/2012|

Myy hubby and I usually spend our sundays doing flea markets but havent found one thats really big and great so we started doing
yardsales but now I want to start consignment and thrift shopping. He enjoyed it when we went the other day too. Im still on the hunt for a dresser. I saw a nice one on CL but the guy was asking too much and wouldnt go lower. It was really nice too!

When we went to SA the other day I saw this beautiful vintage green glass candy dish. I had one already but loved it so wanted to buy it. The sticker said $6!!!! Im sorry but thats crazy. I bought my other one for 50cents or $1. I like to spend $1 thats the price I say sold! lol 9|3| If you are looking for|countrygirl|electricunit@cs.com|09:49:22|03/09/2012|

clothing a lot of times churches and charities will have
what they call a "white elephant sale" or "Rummage Sale".
You can fill a paper bag up for $1.00 to $2.00. Once a
year a couple of them will have a yard sale (to help the
kids go on trips)and special events) People donate whatever
they want to help out. They will have it for 1 day. If you
think that the price is too high you can make an offer. Also
4 H will have auctions and Rummage sale. 10|4|yes our goodwill here to is also overpriced....on certain days they have 1/2 off but still overpriced|kylekevin|knknjnln@comcast.net|12:32:40|03/09/2012|

13|3|If that was Depression Glass, it could've been a good deal...|papercut|It7ly@aol.com|16:25:33|03/10/2012|

A green Depression Glass covered candy dish with no damage is worth $20-$50+, so if the store's pricer knows his/her stuff, this could be why the price seemed high.
Gifted/Personal Paypal existing funds (PPEF) greatly
preferred, but I'll work with you on other trade
methods if you have consistently good feedback
here.

Sometimes I find really great things at reasonable prices, but I have to dig! Their regular prices for basic stuff: $3.99 for t-shirts (?), coats are anywhere from about $10-20, books are $2-4 and up, DVD's $3 and up, and so on. Goodwill is not my favorite store for most of my Thrift store hunts. I like St Vincents which is about 15 miles away. A few years ago St Vincents completely remolded their store (it was close to a million dollar renovation because it also included a homeless shelter and other buildings), anyway I worried that it would completely ruin them as far as fair prices, but they are still really great and it is a beautiful store to shop in. I still think they could have been wiser with their remodeling dollars, but they remain my favorite anyway. They also do a lot of good things for low income/homeless people in Southern Oregon, so I feel like when I shop there I am supporting those efforts with my dollars.

I always find terrific kids books (4 or 5 for a dollar), movies, craft stuff, stationary, etc. Such fun!

12|1|the goodwills in this area have 50% off a certain color tag|jdlaurie|savethosepennies@aol.com|07:17:15|03/10/2012|

starting each Sunday. So if you go on Sunday you can find some good deals. See if the stores you are shopping at have any specials on certain days. They also have a punch card and for each $10 you spend you get a punch on the card. When you get to 10 punches, you save $10 off any purchase in the store.

They also have senior discount days (which doesn't benefit me at all) and other events, like 50% off everything in the store every now and then.

Call your local thrift store and see if they have bags sales, or % off certain items on certain days, etc. Alot of time they run specials. What seems like a expensive dresser could very well go on sale a couple days later.

It's really hit or miss at these places, the trick is to visit often... because you never know what they will put out that is new to them.

Laurie 14|1|Goodwills here are kinda pricey, but once in awhile you will find a good buy...I like to shop at two here that our local mission run, they have some nice things and are usually reasonably priced :) |RebekkaVA|queen_vulture@msn.com|17:12:42|03/10/2012|
