I came back from Krogers today with a frown. Must have seen 10 employee tearing all the old shelf stickers off and placing new ones on. You name it, they're changing the prices and up they go..I was looking at ballpark hots for the hell of it cuz its such a warm day today and was thinking about a ballgame and a hot dog..well the last time I bought a pkg I paid 2.79 not 5.79..yes! that is what I was seeing in my store today..some were 4.79 but 5.79? come on!!! I grabbed a small bottle of Franks Hot sauce since I had a coupon and that too jumped 29c..I was paying 99c and now 30 cents more? I'm lost..I hate shopping

sales (unless there is something we need such
as milk or bread). Can't believe how much
prices have risen in the last 2 weeks.
(anywhere from $.30- $3.00) just on 1 item.
When the price of gas went down I didn't see
any price drop in groceries. Noticed too the
nt wts on things are dropping though. I guess
that we will all be on wellfare soon at the rate
things are going. People are losing their houses,
jobs and now more increases. What next? 4|1|As prices go up on everything, food, gas, electricity, taxes, etc.,|Sharon|corvettelady@lavabit.com|13:33:18|03/01/2012|

except your salary is because the value of the dollar continuing a downward spiral. With Spring coming, start growing your own garden, even if you live in an apartment, use pots, then freeze/can veggies for fall/winter season. You'll save a lot more money doing it this way. I can not wait to get things going outdoors. With the warmer temps we have had this year, if I can get a few dry days, I will go ahead and get spinach and lettuce planted outside.

Look for sales, use coupons, strive for the better, not always possible but we cannot buy too much that is full price these days.. We have been trying to eat less meat. more veggies/beans and whatever to handle the pocketbook. Make wise choices..look around too cuz you can be paying too much at one store and find a deal down the road.

There are just 2 of us. I honestly don't know how young families do it these days.
And if you think it is expensive here in the USA, you sure wouldn't want to live in CANADA!
We get very accustomed to our FL lifestyle over the winter, and then we have to return to Canada,
where I have NO idea WHAT I can buy nowadays. Most of our favorite things are not even available up there at ANY price.
Some days here, it is cheaper to eat at our community Clubhouse, or at any of a zillion restaurants, than to buy food for a meal.
I sympathize.

They do not take coupons, but their prices more than make up for that. They often have name-brand items at quite a bit less than Wal-Mart or Target (although I do know that those two stores do accept coupons). Big Lots sometimes has a ONE DAY sale (usually on Saturday), where everything is 20% off! There is even a frequent buyer card that you can accumulate your $$ purchases to earn an additional 20% off.

The best thing that I have found there are very pricey bread and other bakery products at a FRACTION of the cost! And, they are NOT expired!
Buying there enables us to enjoy some specialty bakery items that we could never get otherwise. For young families, this alone would make it worth the trip!! Especially since there are seldom any good coupons for those items. It's a great way to save on lunches, and keep from spending extra money eating lunch out.

HTH. Kathryn 15|1|I was lucky this week, one of our Mom and Pop type stores has whole boneless chicken breast on sale, for 1.39lb I bought 15lbs, and package it up in individual meals for the family. |dlpavitt|dlpavitt@att.net|17:05:36|03/05/2012|

We found one in Fort Worth this past weekend and it was awesome. We had a HEAPING basket for under a $100 (even several packs of meats and cheeses).
The store has overstock from other stores, close to expiration date items, restaurant foods (can tell due to pkging), stuff by the gallon, etc

I'm told the almost never have the same stuff, always changing, and that it's best to stock up when ever you see something at a great price.
We found fajitas in a 4# pack for $7.99 ---- grilled chicken breasts in a 3# bad for $3.95, a wedge of BRIE for $1.19, 2# bag of grated parmesan for $4.50,
gallon can of apples for $1.95. gallons of pears for $2.95, various sauces for 59 cents a bottle, and a 2# bag of paprika for $1.90 +++ lots more

is one that I like. I have a Costco membership but their prices have all gone up too, so I am not sure that I will renew (it's due at the end of this month and the membership fee went up too!)

We've had kids home (student/teacher conferences were Thurs, Fri and Monday, so it was a 5 day weekend) and this week I have really felt the crunch of trying to keep everyone fed. If we eat sandwiches, that's most of a loaf. (Kristy-- how many loaves do you go through in a week? When I complain, I think about your brood and know I have it easy in comparison).

I haven't been using coupons for a long time... can't seem to get myself back into it. I go through periods of time when that happens and I know eventually I will, but I have all of these responsibilities and not enough hours in the day. Between volunteering, writing and editing a newspaper (a job that found me) and family, that's all I can juggle.

I am getting a garden in once our snow goes away. Pretty soon I will start some plants indoors.

I wish I could figure out how to make the 'sandwich' bread. While the bread is very tasty, I can't cut it thin enough to make sandwiches with it.

Maybe I should just make the dough and bake it in a bread pan in the oven. Any advice?

They have great prices on food items. They always have internet coupons (although not always for foods) and they take manufacturer's coupons. They have some nice gourmet items that you might want for a special dinner or to just treat yourself nice. But also staples, like peanut butter, jelly, cereals, pastas, spices, etc. etc. 21|1|Good deal for those in Rochester, shop at Tops. I go there mostly for meats, deli and produce. This week I got, ground beef 1.99/lb...whole pork loin 1.99/lb, all deli meats and cheeses 2.99-3.99/lb, lettuce 99 cents a head, 5 lbs sweet onions 2.99. I love that store and wouldn't know what to do without it. We wouldn't be able to afford meat and its the mainstay of our diets. We don't eat potatoes, rice or pasta these days so I need affordable meats and I love spending my money at little local markets to keep them in business. I do still go to weis for some coupon things but not for meats, deli or produce. 26|2|lol LaCinda ya know i live close to ya what store is that that ur talking about? also have you come down to bedford to shop the food salvage store called Little Barn Discount Groceries? things are good ya just hafta watch the dates on the items but i always usually leave with a cart full.|QponFreebieQueen|QponFreebieQueen@gmail.com|07:53:06|03/08/2012|

There are 3 locations, philipsburg, bellwood and hollidaysburg...I know a lot of people drive a while to shop at hometown because the prices are just unbeatable. Their meats are so much better than any other stores around too. The cashier told me they get the meats and produce locally so maybe that is why they are so much better, more flavor, so tender. I love their sirloin steak, ribeye steak...amazing quality and flavor. Sirloin was on sale last week for 3.99 and the ribeyes go on sale for 5.99.

A few weeks back they had a huge sale and the store was packed all week. Butter was 1.88/pd, lettuce 88 cents, eggs 88 cents a dozen, whole ny strip was 3.99 pd and I forget the rest. I like their chicken too, the boneless thighs are so good for stir-fry, last time I got those it was 1.39/pd.

I never heard of the store in bedford, I don't get over that way much at all but sounds like a good place to check out. Thanks for the info! 28|3|oh, stop shop in altoona too|cinda68|lacinda68@gmail.com|11:10:46|03/08/2012|
