How creepy is this?

A few years from now, when your doctor prescribes a prescription for you, you might not get a bottle of pills. Instead, your drugs might be delivered under your skin, from a small microchip. At least, that’s the promise of a new invention by MIT researchers Robert Langer and Michael Cima, who worked with MicroCHIPS, Inc. to develop a microchip capable of delivering prescription drugs to patients. The chip, which has been in development for over a decade, just completed its first human test, which it passed with flying colors.

Here’s how the chip works. It’s implanted underneath the skin of the patients (who, in the study, reported that they often forgot it was there.) The chip contains tiny reservoirs that the drugs are placed into. The reservoirs are sealed with a layer of platinum and titanium. When a current is applied to the seal, it melts, releasing the drugs into the patient’s bloodstream. The microchips are programmable, as well, so that the drug delivery can be automated.

1|1|There are already sub-dermal implant medications out there (birth control)....but the main problem with this is that there is no way this is cost effective. Knowing how the pharm corps work and scheme, it will cost a fortune for the medication, a fortune for the doc to implant it. And what if the patient needs an adjustment in the med dosage (this is pretty frequent and common, especially with cardiac, blood pressure, and diabetic meds)? More cost to remove it and implant with another....I love medical technology, but sometimes if 'it aint broke, dont fix it'.|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|07:34:14|02/20/2012|

3|1|OMG~~~ Who in their right mind would want this.? Not me.. What if they implant , then you are allergic???|driller|harj@frontier.com|14:59:20|02/20/2012|

Too many things that could go wrong. I would also be affraid if someone messed up and implanted the wrong meds. And if they
have to open up your skin, forget that.... :(( It must have to do with the money?????? Would be more expensive like Joy said.

I did a survey a while back, 6 months or so and it was all about microchips in each pill/capsule. The chip would be able to send a signal to your doctor to see if you were compliant with the medication schedule, etc. I do a lot of surveys and believe me that was the creepiest one I ever did. 5|1|That scares me too! I won't do it. I wondr if it will have 666 on it? |lv2qpon|jcummins1@rochester.rr.com|16:08:32|02/20/2012|

Also known as Mark of the Beast. This whole thing is a nightmare what they're doing to the people. It's like watching a science fiction movie only it's really happening!! 7|1|this really freaks me out and I have lots of reasons|cinda68|lacinda68@gmail.com|13:15:42|02/21/2012|

First one being, I am very ill and have complex medical conditions. I already have too much trouble with being passed around to this specialist to the next and having different doctors prescribe to me contraindicated meds to the ones I already take. I really think if I didn't do my own research on the meds and if my pharmacist weren't a good friend who alerted me to problems...I would have been dead by now just from allergies to certain meds.

Most recent example is a few months ago, I was given neurontin for trigeminal neuralgia and believe me I was willing to take anything to get rid of this pain. Its beyond description. Anyhow, I took the first dose of it and it eased the pain but a few hours later my legs and feet swelled so bad I couldn't wear my pants or shoes. It took a week for the swelling to go down. All from one pill! So that is from doctor 1, don't take anymore you are allergic. No kidding. So doctor 2, prescribes me Lyrica when is pretty much a cleaner version of neurontin. And he did this knowing the reaction I had from neurontin. The pharmacist called me and told me, you can't take this if you are allergic to neurontin, I'm calling the doctor to see if he has an alternative, I'm not filling this Lyrica. I was extremely grateful. As it is now, still am not on anything to control this horrific pain, back to another specialist soon. Keep in mind I have CHF too, was incredibly scary for my legs and feet to swell, I thought it was my heart.

My point being...what if the neurontin was implanted in my skin, constant doses until the doctor could "shut it off"? I'd probably be dead by now. This is not going to improve health care for anyone, if anything...it will result in more deaths via prescription medications. Scares me because I have a huge ziploc bag full of meds I am already on and they are always trying to add another. Some of them I need and can't do without at all and if the only option is an implant...just don't know what I will do. I won't take one so I guess I will go without the medication. 8|2|I am highly allergic to some mecications as well. I don't think they can mandate this. I hope the government backs |lv2qpon|jcummins1@rochester.rr.com|14:35:32|02/21/2012|

down. They control so many things now. It will be interesting to see what happens with the mandated health bill that is being considered by the Supreme Court regarding whether it is legal or not.
