That's not so bad. Special plates are more. You can get different types you need to add an extra $45.00.

Stickers for pick-ups are higher & if used for farming/agricultural, the price is more yet.
Tax is paid only at time of vehicle purchase w/the title transfer fee. But in accordance w/that Joy said, our state is also in huge debt & w/the crooked politicians, anything could change w/the taxes.

I know because that's where I am living. What we have is a low tag fee based on type of vehicle, but a perdonal property tax on the car based on its value. STATES THAT QUOTE A HIGH TAG PRICE DO NOT HAVE THAT car tax. They combined the 2. mINE COMBINED IS AROUND $4OO.

The DMV rate is the same across the whole state for the tags. But the "personal property tax rate" is different depending on the city/county you live in. So you may be charge a higher or lower fee for the same vehicle in different parts of the state.
Also some counties require you to buy a "county sticker" (displayed on your windshield next to the inspection sticker) every year ..fee for most vehicles is $20.
This year in the county where I live they are going to just add that fee to your personal property tax bill for each vehicle.

they have the nerve to charge us for using it. I want to add that I have a vanity plate too otherwise I would be paying $57.00 I think it was. But the $10.00 user fee is what everyone has to pay. I'm sure they will think of another addition when it's time to renew again. They can dream up all these extra charges every couple of years.
I prefer no fee paypal, but will accept cc, stamps plus postage

We are taxed at the level the politicians are spending our money. They will call it by differnt names, it's still a tax. Since VA is in the bottom third on total taxes charged, I'm Ok with the car tax as is. It just means some of my other taxes are lower.
Many years ago, the personal property tax includes your furniture. Imagine the difficulty of collecting that. I'm told there used to be tax spies peeking in your window to value your furniture.
