16 0|0|Washing machine help, please. TIA|jen_ron|jenayn@yahoo.com|21:30:27|02/04/2012|
Have a wierd deliema with my washing machine.Recently Ive noticed my machine smells funny, kinda like when you forget you washed a load of laundry and then a day or two later open it up and ick. But I havent done that recently and Ive even taken to leaving the top open to try to air it out. Not to long ago I noticed a black line around the top of the drum, Im assuming its where the water stops when it fills up. I tried scrubbing it off but it didnt work. Anyone have any ideas on how to clean it?? My DH says CLR will take care of it but I dont know plus I dont want to use anything that would be too abrasive. Thanks!

My Ebay Auctions ~ http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZjenayn 4|3|Try some Borax...add about a cup to the machine, run the hot wash cycle/cold rinse cycle on extra large load......Borax is awesome stuff! :)|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|22:40:06|02/04/2012|

5|4|I second the Borax idea but I also hope it gets the black mold off sufficiently...(more inside)|noway|mizzbishop@gmail.com|01:22:02|02/05/2012|
Look, I'll mail you some Tide washing machine cleaner. I don't need it. RAOK just send me your addy. 6|5|It should....I make a Borax/water paste to scrub at the caulking in my shower surround, tile grout, etc in the bathroom where the mold or mildew tend to show up.....|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|06:54:51|02/05/2012|

7|6|Found some Tide cleaner today!! So excited, Ive even already used it! lol DH reminded me that the black ring could be from the black liqueor (sp?) that gets all over his clothes from work. Its a type of fluid they use to help run the boilers at the paper plant he works at. It already smells better and the black ring is less, not as dark or as thick. Thanks so much!!!|jen_ron|jenayn@yahoo.com|19:54:20|02/05/2012|

My Ebay Auctions ~ http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZjenayn 8|7|glad you found it. maybe borax can get rid of the rest of the ring! |noway|mizzbishop@gmail.com|22:51:41|02/05/2012|
:) or maybe rubbing alcohol? 9|1|I don't know if it would help on the black ring but.....|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|12:06:28|02/06/2012|
You should be able to get rid of the smell pretty easily & cheaply by using a mix of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide & a squirt of Dawn dishwashing liquid & run it thru a reg. wash cycle. I just dump in about 1 C. baking soda, 1/4 C. peroxide & a good squirt of the Dawn & let the machine go thru an otherwise empty warm wash/cold rinse cycle. I do it on occasion simply to give the "innerds" of the machine a good cleaning. Been using this mix for years, ever since I found out it's the ONLY good, easy & cheap recipe that works miracles on getting rid of nasty skunk odor. ROFL!!
ETA: I get this stuff in a spray bottle at Dollar General called Awesome (see link below). It only costs like a $1 or $2 & it works wonders on alot of things. It kind of smells like it has ammonia in it but it has no acid, no ammonia & no bleach in it. It may very well remove that black ring you have in your machine.

10|1|I always leave the washing machine open when not in use, never had a problem.|lv2qpon|jcummins1@rochester.rr.com|15:45:55|02/06/2012|
"" 11|2|Vinegar works good to get rid of the funky smells too....|Beaglesfly|lmllr77@aol.com|10:01:49|02/07/2012|
I take a spray bottle of vinegar and spray inside the tub thoroughly and then run a load of like towels with a cup of vinegar thrown in too.
Lauren 12|3|Agreed! :)|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|13:44:12|02/07/2012|
Sometimes I add some vinegar to a load of clothes just for extra softeness. I like the added softness (especially w/the towels, jeans & jammies) w/out a stronger fabric softener smell. Machine smells good then too. LOL

13|4|How much vinegar do you put in?|lv2qpon|jcummins1@rochester.rr.com|16:02:44|02/10/2012|
That is so interesting! Never knew that vinegar made clothes softer. 14|5|I've only done it once myself, and I didn't pay much attention to how much I was putting in......|Beaglesfly|lmllr77@aol.com|16:37:20|02/10/2012|
Probably a couple of cups. Maybe Tami can give an answer. Hmm, I hadn't noticed that it made my towels softer - I'll have to take note of that if I have to do it again :)
Lauren 16|6|I don't measure either. LOL|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|18:47:56|02/10/2012|
I just keep a vinegar bottle on top of the machine & use from there. But I think it's probably close to 1 cup that I use.
Vinegar is a softening agent so you can use it in place of fabric softener if you want, use in the bathtub &/or to rinse your hair after shampooing. It'll not only soften your skin/hair but also helps w/dry skin & scalp. :)
For those that aren't too fond of the vinegar smell, it does disappear from your skin/hair after an hour or 2. LOL

15|5|I add about a half cup to a load every time I wash :) Gets out stubborn odors too!|saint6811|waylan@comcast.net|18:21:49|02/10/2012|
