Ok.this year..barring any more catastrophies..I am planning on using part of tax refund to buy a new front loader washer and dryer (electric dryer). Anyone that has a front loader please post your opinions, problems with yours etc. I am looking to buy at least a 4.0 capacity or larger. I know I will also buy the pedestals to go with..I am short so need those definately. Thanks for any/all info you can give me! 1|1|I have mixed feelings on mine First off they work best on concrete floors They have a problem with an odor inside the washer so make sure you clean around the seal |teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|09:37:52|02/03/2012|

often to keep it free of gooky slime ick lol aslo make sure you use the HE detergent It does a good job in cleaning and I know they are cheaper these days then when we got ours I don't think I would have bought it if I had known about some of the issues Also I don't know how short you are you may want to make sure that with the pedistal you can see inside the det dispenser
I don't have a front load dryer so I don't know about them 2|1|I have a front load Maytag Neptune washer......|maraj|maraj64@hotmail.com|10:21:07|02/03/2012|

It's about 12 yrs. old now but I bought it used for $40 about 4 yrs. ago so it was a very good deal for me. LOL
They can get a funky smell inside but as long as I keep the door & the dispenser door open when not in use, there's no smell. However, if my son forgets to take a load of his clothes out & leaves them in overnight, the smell is awful. LOL
I had a problem w/mine, for the 1st time, right before Christmas where it wasn't spin-drying the clothes at the end of the wash. Thought it was kaput but got a good Maytag repair man (recommended by Maytag) in here who found it was just a loose switch. Came close to being ripped off to the tune of about $750 by another repair guy who was here 1st, before I called Maytag directly.
I love having a front load washer tho as it uses less water & less soap/fabric softener, & is alot easier on the clothes as there's no agitator for them to get caught in. More room too so I can wash quilts. :)
Unfortunately, the bearings & seal are wearing out on mine so I'll be in the market soon myself for another washing machine. I could get it fixed but for what it would cost to fix it, I can buy a brand new machine.
You might want to do some research & check the Consumer Report ratings as some makes & models tend to be more problematic than others.
HTH. :)

Smile... it makes people wonder what you're up to!

Please identify yourself in 1st email w/name/username. Due to recent problem trades, if I haven't traded w/you before, I will probably require you send your end 1st or I'll need LEGIT trade references/feedback. I will be happy to provide the same. IF you plan to hold your end til you've received mine, I will need to know that IMMEDIATELY, BEFORE trade is finalized.

I rented. My landlord had new washer and dryer. The washer was a front loader. I had the worst problems with it. The steel rod that fits around the washer lid kept falling out every month and after awhile it wouldn't go back in. Couldn't wash clothes then because all the water would drip out of the washer machine. I had a Whirlpool 10|2|there's no agitator for them to get caught in. I wish i purchased one, but they are pricey.
My top loader smells as well if i forget to leave the door open.
If i leave the door open, it dries out and no smell. 4|1|I like them. They use less water (great if you're on a meter). But you need to be proactive about letting them air dry at the end of laundry day else they can get musky. Also, be sure to wipe the rubber seal dry after use too. It can get pretty icky in there. Best to get a pair that are matched for max efficiency. We bit the bullet and bought a matched set and love them (even though our old dryer wasn't dead). Way less lag between loads that way.|Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|14:21:38|02/03/2012|

And I like them alot...you do need to understand a few things as far as operation goes..keep the washer door open always so that it can air out. Once a month, use affresh to clean the washer drum. And if you aren't stacking them, make sure that you get the pedestals. And buy only HE detergent. 6|2|Keeping the door open isn't always an option as mine are in th ekitchen in a laundry "closet" so if|teener|teenerzacsneenee@yahoo.com|17:11:30|02/03/2012|

and having to air it out sucks. My advice to the person in the market for the washer/dryer is that you need to evaluate the space in which they'll go in your house. For example we had a really small corner in the basement where a washer and dryer could go, so we had to pick a front loading stackable set. But obviously everyone has different situations. In all, 100% honesty, if you can get a regular set, get it. It's just easier and cheaper. If I could have, that's what I would have done, but the standard sets just wouldn't fit. 7|1|Thanks everyone! as I am looking for all the input I can get. I can only do this 'one' time financially so want to get the right ones the first time. I know I do not want LG that is for sure! I have had nothing but problems with the brand new cell I got sometime back that was LG..wasn't even a week old and had to send it back and the company made ME pay to send it to them with DC on it etc. What kind of crappola is THAT?! NOT a 'good' warranty for sure so if that are that bad with a cell phone sure dont' want to pay big money for large appliances and have bad service and bad appliances. :(

I stopped at Sears today..just getting info and looking..and asked about 'steam' features. Says they don't run the water pipes & hookup for it to the washer..you have to call a plumber to do that. Well..THAT is out for me then. She did say that the dryers with the steam feature ..the matching washer comes with a rubber hose with plugin..that attaches from the washer to the dryer and the dryer heats up the water and makes the steam. Well that is out as I cannot have my washer & dryer next to each other. Only one space for each in my utility room and it makes the appliances across from each other so currently I can grab stuff from washer and swing sideways to fling it in the dryer behind me. My flooring out there is concrete as well. I realize I have to watch which way the doors open and should get stainless tub in washer so it doesn't show any water/rust stainage. I do have soft water though as well.

Keep your reviews/opinions coming! Thanks sooo much everyone! 8|1|Always wash the filter for the dryer after each use (m)|bloobird|bloobird1@comcast.net|17:57:56|02/03/2012|

If you don't it will take longer and longer to dry and eventually not dry at all.

I use HE detergent all the time but found out I only need 1/2 recommended on the bottle.

I like mine and have been using them for four years.

I have a GE matching set.

I could not understand why it is taking longer and longer to dry clothes.
We took the pipes and cleaned them with the hose but it did not help with drying time.
I noticed that there was alot of lint in the compartment under lint screen.
I used a metal hanger (from dry cleaners). I bent it so it could feet and fished out tons of lint.
Afterwards, it cut drying time more that half. Now, i know what they don't tell you when you buy the appliance. 12|1|i hated my front end washer even tho i got it as a gift i bought me a used one and it has been on the go since the front end sits in the corner i just don't care for them at all |lydzkydz|lydzmcss@yahoo.com|20:49:06|02/03/2012|

i appreciate all the trades made in the past.

THANKS!! 13|1|One more thing... I hate to use bleach because I usually end up with spots. If I do use it on a load, I cram all the whites possible in there and do them all at once. Then I run an empty cycle after I wipe the seal. Ours comes with some command to use a cup of bleach as a cleaning cycle though. I've done that before. I want to try the tide front load washer product to see if that helps. But it does get musty if you leave the door shut. Also, clothes should never stay in there for more than an hour or so. If you wash a load on your way out the door and come back in a few hours, they can get a bit musty. |Sara_s_Mom|IClipCoupons@gmail.com|13:18:27|02/04/2012|

Slime and gunk on the seal
Odor
Clothes just didn't seem clean, I would rinse 2x
Loud
Small loads to be effective, resulting in doing more loads of laundry

Someone mentioned that you have to keep the door open. That didn't didn't work for me because the laundry room is a super tiny spot just wide enough for washer and dryer that also leads to garage. Door from house would bang into it or garage door would smack it. Annoying...

Anyways, we got rid of that piece of junk and bought a SpeedQueen top load washer and it is awesome! Absolutely love that I can do big loads and the clothes feel clean.

and have had no problems. Have had it for 10 years.
I do mostly cold water washing so that stains don't
set. I have even done washing in the evening and
forgot to take the laundry out. In the morning I didn't
have any odor problems.
(I like to hang them outside when possible)I take them
in later on in the afternoon and if they are not completely
dry I throw them in the dryer. I have it set for(sensor
dry)and just push the start button. Most of the time
they are all dry within 5 to 10 minutes.
I have a laundry room. My machines are on inlay. no problem.
I wipe the rubber with a tissue after I am done. (most of the
time not much scum) I have 7 large indoor cats. When I throw
blankets or anything they lay on in the machine the rubber
does have a lot of fur. (I can do a lot of heavier laundry
that I couldn't do in my smaller one.) When I throw it in
the dryer I clean the filler before I turn it on. It just
slides up from the front and I wipe it off. No problem with
clogging as it has a large hole to the vent. They are both
efficiency appliances. I used to have the Maytag side small
appliances and did 30-35 batches a week. Couldn't do blankets,
comforters and etc. (have to take them to the laudry mat and use
the big washers. Now I do wash 3-4 times a week and can do
everything. 17|3|front load washer|kartdudesmom|kartdudesmom@yahoo.com|10:40:17|02/05/2012|

We bought LG s and had them 1 1/2 yrs and 2 mother boards went out on them and cost more to repair than the pair was worth. AWFUL smell always from the washer as we could not leave to open all the time due to pets and grandchildren and didnt want them crawling into it. Ok..after reading everyone's posts and doing my research online..including a subscription (investment) to Consumer Reports, I got a Whirlpool Duet set (front loader). I can't remember model # off top of my head but it was top rated by CR as well as alot of positive reviews. Has largest..I think..capacity too. Got installed here last evening and have done at least 10 loads of stuff in them so far..yeah..LOTS of catching up to do! lol! Been stripping beds..doing comforters..all the bigger stuff I couldn't do with my regular old washer etc. So far, love them! They forgot to include the dividers in my pedestal drawers but are shipping them to me..probably be a week or so before they get here.
Wow..sooo much quieter than my old washer and dryer..practically dry when they come out of the washer. Amazing! Doesn't take much to entertain me, does it? :) Only thing so far I do not like is my old set I could hear when the buzzer went off..was nice & loud. These new ones 'chime' a few notes..only like 3 or 4 times..that is it. Even set to 'loud' they are too quiet..can't hear them unless right there by them. But if that is the only drawback, I am a very happy camper!
Thanks soo much everyone for all your input etc. I really appreciate it!! God bless you all and have a great evening!

Quiet, cleans clothes better, All that twisting and churning is not good for your clothes. Uses less water, less electricity and handles large loads with no problem. My old top loader would sometimes bang and even walk on large loads, particularly comforters. The laudrymats would not allow comforters and other heavy/large items in their top loaders. We have 2 dogs, use to have 3, and a cat, so lots of cleaning. We do leave the door open.

Before you jump on the band wagon for a Maytag, read Consumers Report. If you can get a 10yr old one, fine. But the newer ones are poorly rated. One of the worst repair records.

If your LG broke down in the first year, your warrenty should have covered it. Raise a stiink. My Whirpool refrigerator had problems from the get go. It is a highly rated one. Fortunately I had a very honest and good service man. after 4 different ones we called. Between him and me, we made them replace the entire unit. Not a problem since. I kept pestering them when they try to tell me something is normal when I know it is not. I asked them if their refrigerator or anyone they know's refrigerator did the same thing. Finally a different indepedent service person was called in and he took temperature measurements . He agreed the unit was built defectively. Had a fight too with the guy who delivered the replacement. He would not switch the side the door opens and remove the ice maker. I need space not an ice maker. I said that is the way the machine he is removing is, and I want it to be the same. Would niot let him make delivery until he did it. They are to replace it, not give me something different.

ou cannot let them step all over you and accept their lame excuses. 23|4|I even printed out the Consumer Reports comp report &....|Skaytes|skaytez@gmail.com|22:31:46|02/15/2012|

took it with me when I went to the stores and the sales guy even looked at it. I had it all marked with notes etc as well. :)

I bought a new LG phone a couple years back..case of I 'had' to back then. Anyhoo..big money BAD service with LG. I sent it back within a week of getting it and they REFUSED to pay shipping charges. Had to pay MYSELF to ship it back to them along with note inside (per their instructions) of what was wrong, my addy etc. When I finally got it back a month later (No reimbursement on shipping for me either..flat out refused to pay for it they did)they said the reason for repair was something TOTALLY different and superficial..NOT what I told them on the phone or on the enclosed note with it. I was sooo mad..still irks me. Luckily I rarely use my phone so even though it's not 'right' it will work for what I need it to but I swore NEVER to buy anything LG again after my experience.

Same with GE appliances. Have been thru 2 fridges and 3 compressors and only one happened under warranty..the other 2 happened right after warranty went out..of course. My dishwasher from Sears...was a lemon from the get-go. Had everything in it you could replace, replaced when it was under warranty..still didn't work right. Then since they couldn't figure out what was wrong (I told them the wiring was bad in it from the get go but who am I to know that, right? Sheesh!)..anyhoo..they blamed it on the wiring in MY HOUSE. Um..no..it's NOT the wiring in my house. My friend gave me her dishwasher that was only a couple years old and was just gathering dust in the garage. Guess what..not one lick of problem with it since I have gotten it. Definately problem is bad wiring in the dishwasher for sure but out of warranty now of course. Oh..and I DID push them to replace the dishwasher..whole thing..after they replaced everything but they flat out refused. Not buying a Sears brand like that again either. 22|3|front loader ..edited my post to reflect that :)|Skaytes|skaytez@gmail.com|22:19:44|02/15/2012|

I keep finding more stuff off and on..lol! I have found that the washer also tells you when it's time to use Affresh to clean it out..the yellow light comes on and blinks where the 'use affresh' is on the washer. A friend has a front loader and used the Tide Washing machine cleaner and was not a happy camper with it. Said running it 3 x still did not get all the powder of it out of the machine and is planning on contacting P&G and letting them know how unhappy she is with it. The Affresh (from Sears) is a tablet (versus Tide powder) and I got 2 used from the tablet.
Also found the dryer tumbles the clothes every 'x' amt of minutes to keep them from wrinkling if you don't get to the dryer right away. Not sure 'how' long it keeps doing that but discovered that interesting fact. The dryer dries soooo much quicker than my old one (and it had a new heating element in it too) it's just amazing to me. I will keep posting things as I 'discover' them here to keep everyone informed. I do know my particular washer does not have a option where I can just spin only clothes out. Friends who have a units a few years older do have that but mine does not. Haven't needed it at all yet but just a FYI on that. I also cannot use the steam feature as I can't put my washer & dryer side by side just due to the layout in my laundry room so cannot connect them to use that feature. I don't miss it though. :)
